5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I've searched the forum, the manual, and the electrical PDF, to no avail- but I might not have know what to look for in the PDF.
Here's the deal, I tweaked a fuse tap to (possibly) work for the stupid new little fuses. There is a fuse marked "Cig" and one marked "Power" (or something like that). Both are 20Amps.
The question: The '07 I4 manual trans I have, only has 1 outlet in the car (in the cubby), which is the fuse that operates it?

Well, without looking at the manual, I would pull one fuse at a time and see which one drops the power.
or you could open your Owners manual and find it is fuse # 28 or 29..................................
Thank you. Yes, I realize that, and maybe my question was a bit too specific... I'm trying to determine what both of the fuses operate, and that "test" only tells me what one of the fuses is for.
The manual lists them both as "Power Outlet", but I only have one power outlet (cig lighter type in cubby). Which prompted my (modified) question... Where are the TWO power outlets that are operated by these two fuses- one is in the cubby, so where is the other?
I haven't looked in a manual transmission Camry, but for what its worth, I have two outlets in my 08 LE 4cy auto. One is in the compartment, very back, below the radio and stuff - with a push-to-open door. The other on the drivers-side rear on the center console.
I looked through the wiring diagrams for your car, and they only show two power outlets controlled by one 20a fuse labeled "PWR OUTLET). One is in the center console under the armrest, the other looks like it is in the compartment under the radio. The power distribution chart for your car doesn't show a fuse labeled 'CIG'..
Thanks for checking. However, I only have 1 cig lighter/power outlet (whatever ya wanna call it), it's in the cubby under the radio. Unfortunately, I don't have one in the center console under the armrest (well, it may be wired for one, but the outlet doesn't exist).
Even stranger, is that the one in the cubby under the radio is powered thru the "Power Outlet", not the "Cig", 20A fuse- if I remember correctly... last Wednesday was so long ago.
Either way, I gave up trying to use my personally modified fuse tap and just spliced into the wire that goes to the power outlet in the cubby. Which is how I had it originally, but the splice became loose and was intermittent. I did it a bit differently, so hopefully now it'll be better.
Unfortunately, this is to power a 3 outlet power port in the glove compartment, one of the items plugged in is my iPod. Prior to this, I did not have a buzzing noise using the iPod, NOW I do. Other than adding (soldering) an additional length of wire, nothing changed. I find that strange. I'll add one of those thingies that you put around the wire to hopefully curtail this new issue. (and no, I don't use the AUX port in the cubby, so I think it's safe to assume that the TSB that addresses that issue wouldn't matter)
Wish me luck... I'd like to have everything working the way it was/is supposed to.
