Advantages of Gen 6 over Gen 5?

Any substantial advantages in 4 cyl models (I realize V6 is different)?

Or is it just newer body style?

Camrys made 2006 and before have many fewer problems. Starting with the next gen 2007 and later, i have noticed so many posts here about problems with drive-by-wire, transmission noise, brake clunk, and alot more. Thats not just my opinion either, consumer reports has also noted more problems with the later models too.
I like my 2002 V6- but my next car will be an Accord or Altima.

Gen6

The exhaust pipe does not hang down like a 1960's Hungarian cab on the GEN6.

Gen6 looks much more luxurious than the previous gens. Note I stated not better looking, but more luxurious looking.

I agree with the post above about the exhaust hanging down. Also, IMO, the Gen6 Camrys look better than the Gen5 versions (especially the SE V6s). Also, the suspension is handling is better from my understanding. The V6s are frickin fast on the Gen6 also and get pretty good gas mileage.

Otherwise, build quality and long-term reliability seems to be better in the Gen5s. All the components (especially the electronics) seem to last longer.

I don't drive autos, so 5 speed auto issues are irrelevant to me.
I don't drive V6, so more power of gen 6 is irrelevant to me also.

Then it amounts to cosmetic difference? 2.4L engine is the same.

The I4 engine is basically the same, IIRC the Gen 6 I4 actually has a few HP less then the Gen 5, however from what I understand that is to help reduce emissions.

The other differences are mostly cosmetic.

The 6 speed is nice, also I test drove a Gen 5 and the steering was strange.. it never did go where I expected it to go and didn't seem proportional to the amount of turn of the wheel. On the Gen 6 it's near perfect, the steering is responsive and predictable with no torque steer that I have noticed. I also like the look better, seems more modern, larger, and expensive looking.

By the way I passed on the Gen 5 and got a Rav 4 that I loved. The only problem with it was that they put neg. cambar on the back wheels (maybe to cheat at roll over tests) and it wore the tires on the inside edge.. geerrr. You coundn't even get them adjusted to zero and I could not find a kit to fix it. Wasted a bunch of money on tires. Other then that it was most fun to drive machine I have ever owned. And the steering on it was near perfect.

By 2007 I had enough of the tire buying and got a Camry since the new one was out. I liked it so much I got a 2009 for my wife this year to replace her gas drinking Tundra.
