Disc Got Stuck in my JBL Changer...Now I Need a New One!!
Hello Fellow Camry-ites!
Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself, and rant about something that has me pissed off about my fairly new ride (got her in February and have had a bunch of "cosmetic mishaps" already at only a tick over 2200 miles...); I know y'all can relate to these pains...
I have a 2008 SE V6 with the JBL six disc changer option; a couple of days ago, a disc got jammed in the changer (it was probably my fault, as the disc looked a bit "warped" as it went in but it was too late; it was a "Seether" CD single...) and from there, no other discs would load and the one that was stuck wouldn't eject -- and then I got the dreaded "ERROR" message on the screen...brought it to a local dealer (not the one who sold me the vehicle)and they told me they need to order me a new head unit to swap it out because there's definitely something wrong with it. They said they tried getting the disc out, which they did, but then the head unit ate the disc again and wouldn't come out again so they went ahead and ordered me a new radio...
I hate this though...I needed a new radio in my previous car, too, a 1999 Accord EX V6 Coupe which they replaced under warranty for me...but this is aggrevating...now I feel like I don't have a new car anymore; the vehicle has only 2,000 something miles on her...
Any other current-generation Camry owners experience bad luck with their JBL changers?
Mods, please forgive me if this belongs in the audio section of the forum; I posted there, too, but figured I may get some more exposure on the general Camry areas...
1 of my JBL speaker went bad. Completely not my fault. It just.. go bad. 2 days stuck at the dealer getting it fix... 1 day they had to trouble shoot twice to figure out it's bad.. but they didn't have it in stock so had to go back the next day and spend another several hrs while they place the bad 1.
So.. now that CD is in even more worse condition right? LOL Next time if U do pick up a CD that warped or might cause problems, think of the hrs you will spend in the dealer waiting for them to fix/change/etc. Than you might not put it in. If it were me, I would put it into my computer CD burner and copy it than use that new CD. (Keep the old one to prove that you did buy and own the original and not making illegal copy)

Was this in an SE? What generation Camry? New? My vehicle is an 08 and it's pissin' me off that it's already needing a new head unit -- as I said, this happened in my last ride, too, and I thought I was done with replacing my factory head units...

Well, true, but as I said, I noticed it was warped after it was already too late because I fed it in...
Anyway, it seemed like the changer may have been defective from the factory because the dealer couldn't get it to work after that anyway...
You had a self inflicted problem that Toyota is going to fix under warranty.......
You don't have a new car anymore either after you've driven it.....
Shit happens........
Never got anything good or helpful to say. Always gotta say some shit that doesnt even help the OP or anyone for that matter. Isnt the forums to help others and not be a dick and a douche? I dont care how long you've been here or if you paid to be a member. There is no reasons for your stupid ass remarks.
Seriously..grow up. If you have nothing useful or helpful to say, dont say shit!
Your head unit WASN'T DEFECTIVE -- you put a WARPED DISC into it.
This isn't your car's fault, it's not Toyota's fault, it's not the manufacturer of the head unit's fault --------
IT IS YOUR FAULT.
The reality of the situation is that you should feel VERY DAMN LUCKY that the dealer is going to fix this under warranty.
And no, you are NOT correct in thinking that the head unit was defective from the beginning, as the following actions were INFLICTED upon it:
1. You jammed the loading mechanism with your warped disc.
2. The dealer forcibly ripped the warped disc out of the mechanism.
Do you REALLY think that neither of these actions caused any damage whatsoever to the loading mechanism in the unit?
No, there's just no way that these actions wouldn't have damaged the loading mechanism. You broke it; the dealer broke it probably even worse, and now it's broken. Simple as that. And I bet it worked perfectly fine, up until the point you broke it.
Ur lucky the head unit is being replaced. If u feel u don't have a new car...well at least u will have a new head unit!!!
I guess its just a matter of looking at the glass half empty or half full. You had a few mishaps...so what!!! At least the car drives well and is one piece !!!
Getting back yo ur original question...i don't have a JBL unit so I wouldn't know

Oh, poor baby.........you always add something to the discussions......not!!!!!

Camry SE '07 V6. Lets see.. here are all the incidents I had with my car.
1) After the car bought for about 1 week. I went to pick up my cousin. Afraid he will slam his suitcase onto my nice bumper, so I brought along a not so old comforter to lay on the bumper went putting on the suitcase. I pull in the parking lots and there he was already, so I pop the trunk and before I could get out of the car, he open the trunk and *BAMP* the entire suitcase got slam on the bumper with a few miner scratches.
2) Tires were bad due to long parking on the lots. Here is a hump and it is big enough to cause bumping sound when driving above 30mph. All 4 were bad but the dealer only agree to replace 1. So, the worst one went and the rest were worn down and it was better.
3) After about a little more than half a year, I backed up into the drive way. Knew my brother's Motorcycle was back there but I under estimate how close it was. So I backed my car into it. It looked bad. The indent was the size of a text book. I got into the car and moved the car.. The bumper went right back out and left with only a few scratches. I was like WOW. It is hardly visible at all.
4) The flares that every1 been having.
5) This JBL speakers. They replace it and now it rattles. But I will fix that rattle myself. It's out of warranty and I don't want them to touch the car again.
It's life.. I learn to live with it and just happy that my car look good and drives good. O yes, the 30mph on a V6 is good too.

Get a grip, will you???
+2
Consider yourself lucky that they replaced the head unit under warranty. I hardly think you can blame this on shoddy parts!

Someday I will list my mods here
I'm not even gonna touch many of the comments on here; suffice to say, I got all the help I needed from the member who stood up for me privately...
I will say this, though: You guys can rag on me all you want about it being MY fault -- you can scream like infants and make your letters huge to simulate throwing a temper tantrum...doesn't impress me in the least. And so here's what I know...
I THOUGHT the disc had been warped when I fed it into the changer...upon going to the dealer and them looking at it all day, THEY CONCLUDED -- AFTER THEY WERE ABLE TO EJECT THE DISC AND TRY TO GET IT TO PLAY AGAIN AND TRIED DIFFERENT DISCS -- that there was definitely something wrong with the head unit itself...they didn't argue with me, they TOLD me they were going to order a new radio because there's something DEFINITELY wrong with the loading mechanism, and my rep even told me "It was probably going to happen to future discs you put in there, so we're gonna go ahead and just order you a new one..."
Now...for the member who replied with all his ailments since owning his Camry...well...I just don't know what to say to that; all those issues would be something that would piss me off to no extent on new car. This is aggrevating, because they now need to pull the head unit out and replace it with probably a refurbished unit that I don't even know where it's coming from. They promised me it would be a new JBL unit, but you never know.

OK, but that still doesn't mean that the head unit was defective right from the start. It just means that "you broke it" with that disc, and with the dealer's subsequent work on it.
If you want to call something "childish," then it would be your thinking that jamming a warped disc into your head unit and the subsequent efforts to remove it weren't the cause of the ultimate need to replace the thing. Turning around and blaming the head unit as being defective from the beginning will earn you some nasty comments -- sorry.
As for njerald, just consider him a "BS detector." He just gets the job done with far fewer words than I do.
