K&N Typhoon or just stick with K&N drop-in filter?
I tried searching the forum for info on this, but I couldn't find anything answering my question. For performance, is the horsepower/torque improvement with the K&N Typhoon air intake worth it over the stock air-box with K&N drop-in filter that I already have? $250 or so is a lot of money (at least for me) that I would rather put into a different mod if the improvements are minimal.
FYI, I am happy the exhaust note that the car currently has so any change there is not that important to me.

I went to PepBoys yesterday and is costs $50.99. They had a $10 off coupon. I thought I was going to pay $40.99+tax but I ended up paying $30.99+tax. For whatever reason, the register took off another $10 even though it wasnt advertised or mentioned.
Second lowest I found it for was for about $40 plus shipping which came out to about $45-50.
The regular filter is $15... so if I reuse this 3 times than it breaks even with the other 1. Maybe 4 times since U have to buy the cleaning kit too.
I wouldnt reuse the OEM filters. When I get my car this week, first thing I'm going to do is put the K&N drop-in. I'll place the OEM filter into a bag/box and store it. I'll use this as a temp when I'm cleaning the K&N. The cleaning kit is only like $10 but since I have K&N in my Taurus, Jetta, Odyssey and my gfs Accord, no need to buy another kit since I already have 2 (one in each house).

I don't have any and this is my first time changing this filter. It's still OEM filter after 45K miles.
Y do U need a temp? How long does it take to wash the K&N and apply the oil stuff?
Thanks everyone for your input. I will stick with my K&N drop-in. Now I have to decide if I want LED taillights, carbon-fiber interior overlays, or lowering springs...

Thanks!
I think most of us realize that the Typhoon intake is purely for the sound. It's a lot of money but I don't regret spending it. The drop in K&N will be fine.

I would go for the springs first. They provide a huge upgrade in the handling department!

Well first you need to apply the cleaning solution. Wait about 10 mins or so and than rinse it off. Once rinsed off, you have to let it dry. Once dry, apply oil and let it soak for 20-30 mins. Check to see if you missed any spots. If not, put it back into air filter cabin.
So while its drying and soaking, if you need the car, you can put in the temp and drive around and put the K&N back the next day. If you're not going anywhere, than you dont need the temp.
