Odometer Problem

The odometer on my mother's 2007 Camry LE jumped approx. 15000 km. It should be around 15000 but now displays 30000 km. I tested the odometer with the trip, and it calculates the mileage accurately. We don't know why the reading is so off from the actual km on the car.

She is in contact with Toyota Toronto, but they are moving very slowly on it. They sent her to a local dealer who blew her off. They said there is no way of determining that the odometer has jumped.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Is there any way that the odometer problem has been logged to the computer?

I'm wondering whether this problem can be solved by a mechanic. She's worried about her warranty, and resale value.

Thanks.

Don't you have maintenance receipts that show the mileage and dates?

I have my spreadsheet for fuel and maintenance that has a lot of entries in it since April '06.

Nothing in the Service Manual covers your problem so a local dealer will be of no immediate help if you have a legitimate problem.

You/they will have to go close to the top of the Toyota food chain to get assistance.

Without maintenance/spreadsheet evidence, you can't be believed...

Good Luck.
