Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
damn how are u guys getting near 30's. I get like 22. LOL.
U take out the breaks and leave the lead foot at home. Simply try not to break or press on the gas so much.. just let it glide at red lights and stuff. And slowly speeding up without the RPM go above #2. And of cause highway driving.

That's why I got the V6. There is little difference in MPG and a huge difference in power. The HP/MPG ratio on the V6 is the best I've seen. Many other cars with 4s get worse gas mileage then my 6.
Case in point Scion TC manual trans 20/27... and that's the best you can hope for. I know for a fact my V6 Camry can do better then that. Are they kidding ? Why in the hell would I drive that little thing would I could have a V6 Camry and get the same or better mileage ?
bwahaha i did the calculations too and im like wtf... i got very similar (better by a bit) results with my accord and im like hows he getting 30. For a bit i thought i was doing my calculations wrong.
You must be a good driver, were you trying to hypermile or just driving like you always do ?
I was going easy since it only had 2 miles on it when I bought it but thats almost normal driving for me. I'm coming from a 2004 Envoy that got about 16 miles per gallon so I was pretty ecstatic with 30. Thats the new 2008 posted numbers in Canada, so I'm happy I got that on my first tank. I was considering the V6 since it did have the same posted numbers but the temptation of the power and speed will definitely bring the miles per gallon lower. I have a lead foot if I know I have the extra power.
Wow Kazz. I find those numbers to be really low. But seeing how it is your first tank, the mileage should get better over the next few months. But if you other guys are getting lower than him, well that just sux. Heck, I was getting 26 mpg (Canadian gallon on the highway) with my 04 Chevy Trailblazer before I get rid of it. Generally, I usually run about 10 km/h over the limit.
Before a recent bout of problems with some O2 sensors and a faulty module on my 07 SE V6, I was getting between 33 and 35 mpg (Canadian gallon) on the highway. The lowest I ever got was 29 mpg (Canadian gallon). The absolute maximum km's I had put on a single tank of gas on a long highway run was 813 km's (505 miles) and the gas light was on for quite some time.
Since I got the O2 sensors and module fixed, my mileage has been better. The first tank of gas after the repair work was a highway trip to Montreal. I got to Montreal with 823 km's (511 miles) on the ODO and there was 1/4 tank of gas left. This calculated out to 40.6 mpg (Canadian gallon). Knowing I can get about 120+ km's to the last 1/4 tank, I could have got nearly 950 km's (590 miles) on that tank. Coming back from Montreal a few days later, I got 38.7 mpg (Canadian gallon) but I was driving a little faster and ran the A/C a lot more. And I had put new tires on in Montreal and that might have had some impact as well.
So, as for gas mileage, I am EXTREMELY happy with the car. There are other issues with it that I need to get taken care of, but mileage has been very good.

Has anyone here ever darkened the door of a school? The OP referenced roughly 30 mpg measured in Imperial Gallons. Not U.S. Gallons. Imperial gallons are larger than U.S. gallons, but a liter is a litre!
