Gen6 Runaway Car Engine Excelleration

My 08 Camry V6SE went nuts tonight on the freeway, I was accelerating
and I let off the gas but the engine kept reeving until it was retarding because of the Rev limiter. I had the cruise control on at the time, I hit the brake and nothing, put in neutral and still hitting max rpm and rev limiter engaging, shut the car off going 70+ and then turned it back on. Trouble cleared. 10,000miles on car.

Obviously you need to visit the dealer as soon as possible and in the mean time avoid the cruise control.

The proper response would be to stop and have the vehicle towed to your local dealership. This is a serious problem and can get you and/or someone else hurt or killed.

I can bet you that this was caused by the floormats. There was a recall with them, but it seems like people are putting the all weather mats on top of the carpet mats or vice versa, causing the mat to be pushed up against the gas pedal.

I highly doubt it's an issue with the car.

It's not easy to get all the way redline and stay there for a long time using the normal driving / gas pedal. Usually redline for 0.3 sec and it get knock right back down.

OP, I suggest you try to reproduce this problem. If you can than it's great and U can show the dealer if they ask. If not, it would be hard for them to do any troubleshooting.

Looked at the floor mat and that was probably it, it had slid forward and was on top of the peddle. Was just the standard mat, not the winter mat.

Don't use the hooks? I thought it's the hooks that hold them in place.

the hook for the carpet? I use it and it's fine. I made a custom floor cover for my car and even put in the hook to help. LOL
