Isn't the reason they are discontinuing the Avalon because of fuel issues and how more and more people are looking for smaller sedans? I don't see why Toyota would go from a full size FWD sedan to a full size RWD sedan...

The Avalon wasn't a great sales success is mostly the reason.

I'd think that switching from FWD to RWD in the Near Luxury Segment will help boost the sales of its successor as it adds better weight distrubution and performence.

It will steal sales from other automakers too

^yeah... but i think the guy was saying "isn't that what the avalon is anyways?", which is a valid question, since the avalon is essentially (ok, more like literally) a long-wheelbase camry from the get-go.

^rwd cressida-like avalon-replacement would be great news for everyone, but stealing sales from other automakers is a double-edged sword- lexus would suffer.

i think they should stick to the plan. kill off the "avalon" nameplate and introduce a new, more responsive, long-wheelbase camry that's not too "boring" to the public eye. maybe even retain the camry nameplate? "camry limited" anyone?

Yuck... that thing is even more Buick like then the Avalon. Hell GM should just buy those, slap on some body side molding, and add another Buick to the lineup. They could call it the Concern.
