Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
How do you know if the audio system in your Camry is JBL? the '06 SE I bought doesn't seem to have any markings. Head unit is single CD w/ cassette. Reason I'm asking is that I'm in the process of putting together an aftermarket audio system and would like to know if I'm starting with a JBL system or not.
(I searched "JBL" but didn't find a real specific answer to my question)

Not true -- I have a 1 disk CD player and it was JBL system. so you gotta actually see the emblem on the CD control deck before you determine it. You can also check the speakers in the car to see if they are jbl.

you don't either. And to the op.. look on the head unit, or the speakers in the trunk. They should have markings on them. As a matter of fact, my old 05 didn't have a JBL system, and didn't have a cassette deck. SO u might have a JBL if u do have the tape deck.

The OP stated in the 1st post that it had no markings on the head unit.
If he doesn't have a 6 disc headunit he does not have a JBL unit!!!!!
I don't have a 2006 but I can read which is more than some of the posters..
I have 2007 Camry LE in USA. My car does not have the JBL amplifier..
Can someone throw some light what exactly does this JBL amplifier do? And why does the OEM nav require this amplifier?
How big is this amplifer? Can we buy and install and make it work seemlessly with Factory stereo?
It's a box the size of a keyboard but shorter in width. It sits under the seat of the front passenger. If it can be work "seemlessly" I would think Toyota include it in the add on. But I don't see that being offer. My 6 disc JBL comes with it.
An audio amp increases the amplitude of an incoming signal
I think the main purpose was to filter and keep the deep base sound than amplify it to power the sub speaker(s). Maybe JBL using it to amplify this sub sound too but send it to all the speakers.
