Gen6 Moonroof Rattles

Is there a service order or recall. When my moonroof is open all the way it vibrates on the drivers side. It get very annoying. My 07' camry has 39000 on it. So, it is't covered by the warranty.

There have been 2 moonroof TSBs for the '07 Camry..

NV006-06, June 20, 2006, Moonroof rattle when in the open position.

NC015-07, December 13, 2007, Knocking from front of moonroof while driving.

Yes, you will have to pay for it.

39,000 on an '07? Where did you go? That's a lot for a 1-year old car.

WARNING, WARNING, WILL ROBINSON!!!

I'll get out my usual routine, once again.

In order to do anything with your moonroof, they will have to remove the headliner. Removing the headliner requires very nearly TAKING OUT THE ENTIRE INTERIOR.

I can almost GUARANTEE you that they will never, ever get that put back together as well as it came from the factory. Not only do you run the risk that they might not fix the moonroof rattle problem, but you run a considerable risk of getting one or more interior rattles that you may never be able to get rid of so long as you own the car.

So, let me ask you a simple question:

"How often do you open the moonroof 'all the way?'"

Personally, I rarely open mine all the way -- I either open it no more than about a quarter of the way open, or use in "tilt" mode.

So, if it's something that you rarely do, would you want to trade a rattle when you've got it all the way open for some interior rattles that'll go on constantly for as long as you own the car? Think about it!

Conversely, can you quiet the rattle by just closing the roof just a bit, and otherwise still enjoy it as much as if it were all the way open? In the end, if you can handle it this way, you will be MILES ahead of ever allowing the dealer to touch your precious interior. Think about it!

DANGER, DANGER!!

I only open to let in light during winter. Summer I let it close, only open when parked to let out hot air and even than I only open about 0.5 or 1 inch just in case I forget to close it when there is rain. I also crack a little the 4 windows to let out hot air.

Other than that I hardly use my moon roof for anything.

Suppose to be tight close to prevent rain water / air pressure from outside. When driving high speed, you can hear the wind if it's not close completely.

If it does rattle even closed, than you need 2 fix it ASAP. If you wait over 35K miles exceeding the warranty to notice it, than you have not pay enough attention to your car.

I think you should go in and complain about it at the dealer, but be nice. And if you service your car at the dealer more than likely they will goodwill warranty the repair for you because of the tsb's. Also, to everyone else at least with my dealer if you do the maintenance's on the vehicle with the dealer and they will do a lot more you if you have these type of problems.
