Motha F***ah Damaged my Bumper...I'm in the Same Boat with all Y'all...
The fiance went around to the backside of my ride earlier tonight and noticed a damaged rear bumper on my SE -- calling me out to look at it, there it was indeed. Someone (I'm assuming) or something scratched the center of the bumper just above the rear valence cutout for the dual exhaust tips (body kit) and left like a few chips and a few inches of a straight line scratch through the paint. Son of a bitch...I know how you all feel now when you get these things that happen to you. What's the best way of going about repair? Should I just get some touch up paint from the dealer? Should the area be repainted? Is it possible compound could take these out? They're pretty deep, but you never know...
Mods, if this better belongs in the detailing/exterior section of the site, my apologies.
try to buff out as much as u can and the paint chips just get some touch up paint and that should be able to do the job. i wouldn't recommend u repaint it, that'll be a waste of money IMO
Touch up paint will do the job, cheaper than repainting the whole bumper. I scraped my front bumper last time... You know how that feels...
Hey Man,
Thanks for the reply...yeah, I was thinking of going down the touch up paint route; just broke my heart because she's so new, ya know? Don't even have 3K on her yet...
For a metallic color, like the Camry's Blue Ribbon, will the touch up paint be really noticeable? Some touch up paints look like nail polish when you put them on.

Hey B0r1,
Thanks for the input bro...yeah, I don't think spending for a repaint makes sense either; it's a small part of the bumper area anyway -- but I know a lot of the times touch up paint doesn't come out too good. I don't want it to look clumpy and like nail-polishy, ya know?
Is the best way to apply the paint with a toothpick instead of the brush that comes in the little bottle?
So, you recommend perhaps compound rubbing it and then touching up the chips?
How many of you got damages to your cars when they were pretty much new? Just curious.
Sigh.. I feel for you and I'm sure you know that. I just updated the post about my bumper now that I got my car back.
Anyway, I would just leave it. Rather - do what you can without touch up paint cause it'll probably make it look worse. It's funny; when it's your own mistake, it hurts but not nearly as much as some careless jerk who doesn't have respect for other people's property.
Just FYI, my bumper was $500 to repaint including tax.

Yeah man -- saw your updated post and replied. You really don't suggest trying to at least cover it with some paint? I don't wanna just leave it as it's a real eyesore and the vehicle is so new; I know what you mean about the touch up paint making it look worse -- I've had that happen to me with certain colors. What about compound or "wet sanding"? Do you think these would work?

Post a picture.. I'm curious what it looks like.
If you want to try touch up paint, have a girl do it - one that's really good at painting their nails. My touch up paint skills suck and one of my friends politely pointed out that it's because guys don't have that delicate touch (and I can't disagree)

Hahahahaha...funny thing, my fiance said she would do it because she expected me to f***ck it up!
