Did a couple little mods to my 2009 4 cylinder today.
Picked up the TRD oil cap at my dealership for $48
Found the K&N at Pep Boys for $54. For the 4 cylinder you need 33-2370. Originally they told me I needed 33-2260, but that is for the Hybrid.
I had to piece together info on this filter for the i4, so for anyone else looking to do this mod: You will need a 10mm socket for three bolts: two on the right side of the box and one on the hose clamp. A 10" extension rod helps for the bolt on the box in the rear. The electrical connector unhooks easily. There is also a support for the cable bundle attached to the top half of the box. Some people try to undo the securing clip, some people cut the tape, some people break it off. I found I could just leave it attached and carefully push the top of the air box up and to the rear after undoing the bolts and the electrical connector, then slide the filter in. Other than that, installation is the same as the V6, and there is a good video on Youtube for that.
I had no problems with the fit of this filter that some people describe with the K&N and TRD. It seated perfectly, and I could tell it formed a good seal yet it bolted back down with no drama at all.
It's a stock engine bay besides these two mods. Next is a front strut bar I think...
I just went for a drive to test it out, I am quite happy. The engine sounded nice. It's still an i4 in a heavy car but acceleration was good. With the high flow filter and the TSB, the car definitely feels a little more responsive and is funner to drive compared to when I first got the car.
I would of waited for a sale at PepBoys. They usually have a sale on filters. I bought mine for $31 after $10 coupon and $10 store discount (dealer discount).
OK, help me out here, please. For $48, what does this oil cap do that the original cap did not do?
Yeah it does absolutely nothing besides look nice.
Obviously there was no meaningful "performance" gain from any of this, and sure you can get the stuff cheaper if you shop around. But these were just some quick and fun mods, take it for what it is.
Oh I do have a question, what is that box between the intake at the front and the air filter box?
