Iphone 3G / Hands Free Issue

I wonder if any of you are experiencing the issues that have been reported with the new Iphone 3G and the hands free. Basically, there is an echo while I speak, and the person on the other end of the call complains of terrible reception (words cut off, etc. - this goes away when the phone is taken off hands-free). There was absolutely no problem with the 1st generation Iphone, but the hands free is basically unusable with the new Iphone. I know this complaint has been voiced with BMW and other car owners.

I'm hoping someone out there has experienced this issue, and maybe found some type of solution. It's likely a phone/network issue, but .... I have adjusted the bluetooth volume as has been previously suggested, with no success. Thanks in advance for any help-

haha, so seem like the new Iphone is leaving the mic on while in hands-free when it suppose to switch it off and use the hands-free's mic.

I had a first-gen iPhone and now have the iPhone 3G. You are correct that the first-gen had no problems with echos. All the iPhone 3Gs apparently have this particular delayed echo issue when using a hands-free device, but it more noticeable on a car's bluetooth system than on a normal bluetooth earpiece/headset. This is a known problem and much discussed problem but I don't know if Apple will be fixing it or not. There is currently no solution for the problem (that I know of).

Besides for the delayed echo though, I have had zero problems with using my iPhone 3G on my factory head unit with factory bluetooth. It has worked flawlessly, with the exception of AT&T's crappy service.

You might want to go to the dealership and test out your iPhone on a different car with bluetooth capability and see how it works. If it works fine there, you can try getting the head unit/bluetooth module replaced under warranty, but there is no guarantee your dealership will help you with that.

First lets just say I know very little about bluetooth/ipods but want/need one

So today I decided to go looking and the at&t guy told me I could use the iPhone 3G as a iPod and hands free it through the camry at the same time???

Would that work or should i stick with a standard iPod?? and seperate phone. I use my phone for work and a echo / bad reception would be unacceptable

I am open to any recomendations Thanks in advance

The iphone works well as both a phone and an ipod. That is assuming they get the hands free issue resolved.

I would say, stay with your current phone for now, you know new stuff has lots of bugs. Give it a couple of months.

I just downloaded and installed the new 2.0.1 software update today. We'll see if that fixes the hands free issue.
