5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Well it all started a week or so ago, when I noticed very little bluish upon start up from the exhaust pipe. Fast forward to two days ago and there is a lot more whitish, bluish smoke during startup. I decided to check the oil levels that same day, and I found that almost 90% of the oil had been (i'm assuming) burnt off, the remaining oil was burnt. I have also noticed a loss of power, which im assuming is a result of having almost no oil. I decided to call my mechanic, and I told him the symptoms; he said it is a very common problem with Toyota, and he believes that I have a head gasket problems. He says that it could end up costing up to $1,200 to repair, What do you guys think? Thanks for your help.
Well guys, after I found out there was almost no oil, I added 5 bottles immediately; I wasnet going to let my engine burn out. By the way it is an 02 Se V6 it has a 3.0L. My mechanic said that the car should still run for a couple more years before having any major problems. I might start looking at a replacement....
TRD VVTi, I have performed regular maintenence on the car since I bought it in 02. I have strictly used the maintence plan that is provided with the owners manual. And as for oil changes, I have changed my oil every 5,000 miles with a semi synthetic since I purchased the car. So please dont tell me that I dont take proper care of my cars. The whole reason I posted here is because I am amazed how within 2,500 miles most of the engine oil cooked. Now I obviously dont know what is exactly what is wrong with the car, which is why I have seeked your guys' advice. Please keep your advice comming. Do you guys think its worth repairing? The car has 125,000 miles.

Usually simple oil changes keep these kind of things from happening....
You didn't provide information that would make me think otherwise. Usually this doesn't happen when an engine is maintained properly.
I'm sorry that I didn't hug and hold you when I posted my reply... I guessed that you were a mature adult and not a small child.
Sorry if I over reacted TRD VVTi its just that this problem is really pissing me off right now, The thought of spending $1500 on a problem that should not be happening is not very appealing. I also wanted to know if anyone has had an issue like this on their camry or any other toyota as my mechanic said it is very common; I personally have never heard this claim before.
Hey, you know, with $1500 down and $200 a month you can get the 09 LE here in Cali. Plus you can just trade in your car, it'll break down again anyways, no matter how many times you fix it. IMO, anything that's over 100K needs to go. I know most people here have over 200K, but it's not me.
