Black debris from A/C vent

When I am running the A/C in my 2007 Camry, there is a black, sooty material that periodically blows from the center vent that lands on my clothes, the edge of the seat, and settles on the center console.

When this happens, there is a momentary "clicking" noise that I have thought came from the area of the center vent.

Because it doesn't happen all the time, and I can't reproduce it at will, I have not yet discussed it with anyone at the dealership.

Is there any additional troubleshooting I can do before approaching the dealership about this?
