Key Fob Source

I've searched this and a Scion forum looking for a cheaper-than-dealer source for a replacement key fob. My daughter's purse was stolen and I need a spare key for her 2007 tC to keep around for lesser emergencies. E-Bay is the only suggestion I've seen. Have any of you come across other sources?

eBay is the cheapest option. Just buy a uncut key...go to dealer and have the program it.

I ordered one from an EBay seller - $90. Price at the dealer is $214 + tax. Programming fee is $35 - and the car and an original key have to be there.

the only problem I see is the old key fob remote will still work on the vehicle which could lead to the vehicle being stolen in the future. My advise is to perform imobilizer reset and replace keyless entry ecu as well. Might be better to go through insurance and it should not effect premium.

My daughter was mugged on a sidewalk in downtown Atlanta by two guys who sped away in a stolen black Mustang with New York plates. Their get away route was a dead end street. My daughter got the plate number when they drove back by. I don't think it's likely these guys will be driving around the metro-Atlanta area clicking when they see a Scion tC.

Insurance in this case would be Homeowners. I don't know if coverage would extend beyond the contents of her purse to preventive measures, such as replacing ignition computers. And the deductible must be considered. Plus, conventional wisdom says to never, ever submit a Homeowners claim for an amount you can afford - or you'll live to regret it.

I do appreciate the thought and time that went into the replies. And I hope I don't wind up kicking myself in the butt for trying to save a few bucks instead of just going to the dealer - and biting my tongue.
