Cleaning rim residue

I have stock SE rims. I was cleaning my car after getting my windows tinted (pics still to come of car). I noticed that the rims have sticker residue. There are also some residue that looks like dirt/water running down the rims but cant be removed using elbow grease or with a rough pad.

What is a good product to remove these things? No, they are not dust from the brake pads. I was thinking of using Goo Gone but wasnt sure if this will damage the rims. If people have used Goo Gone, I'll try it.

When I was working at EB back in the days, a manager used Goo Gone to remove security stickers off a monitor and it melted the plastic on the screen.

Will WD40 work? I read it works for removing double sided tapes like when removing emblems.

Goo gone is often used on painted surfaces, I don't see why you can't use it on your rims. WD40 should work also.

Cool. Just thought that if Goo-Gone ate through plastic, i thought it might damage paint/rims. I'll give it a try when I get home. thanks
