5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Yokohama V4s is $125
Goodyear Assurance TripleTred is $137 with $40 rebate on 4
(So basically Goodyear Assurance TripleTred is $127)
I'm thinking of getting this for my Camry '07 SE with stock wheel. (215/55R17) No lowering or anything... all stock cause roads here with speed bumps and pot hole the size of a car tire.
O ya.. weather condition... I live in the DC area. Mostly Hot and heat about 70%, 20% rain, and the rest is ice and snow. We do get blizzard and 7" snow once in 5 years or so.

Reason: Correction on the Goodyear tire's name.
I have the Yokohama V4S on my 2005. I just put them on about 2000 miles ago, but they are worlds better than the OEM Bridgestones that came on the car from the factory.
I have not tried them out in snow yet but on dry roads and in rain they handle well. The noise is low. I am happy with the purchase so far.
I have never used the Goodyear Triple Tread, maybe someone here at TN has used both and can compare?
I had those exact TripleTreds before getting new wheels (which also got TripleTreds). My wife has used TripleTreds as well. They are a bit louder than OEM, but driving in the rain is NO problem and feels like dry pavement. Those 215 TripleTreds saved my hide driving home in what turned out to be several tornados (black sky, torrential downpour). Worth every penny. There is a reason every review raves about them. The first time you hit that heavy rain, you will be glad you got them.
No experience with the Yokohamas. Not saying they're a bad choice, but TripleTred has never let me down.

These thread lifes arent always accurate. It also depends on weather condition, road conditions as well as driving habit.
I pay more attention to reviews from ppl live near here. Like VA & NY for similar weather conditions. Everything else, can't really tell unless you are there to see it.
I just take it as average. So when I say the V4s has less thread life, I go by 3 or so good reviews saying that. And 3 or so reviews saying TripleTred tires are quiet for the first 5K but after that it gets loud.
I have had the Goodyear triple treads on my last car and absolutly loved them. I have a 09 Camry with Michelin energy's now and the energy's are a touring tire. The TT are more aggressive and better handling tire. They are fantastic in rain and snow ( I live in Canada) as well as dry pavement. I have also have the Nokians WR on my other car, and yes they are great in snow but not an aggressive tire. I have never tried the Yokohama's but I can definitely say you won't be disappointed with the TT. I'm going to put them on my Camry soon and sell off the Michelin's.
I put in the order for Goodyear. Hope it'll be a good ride. lol
Thanks Tobeit, but I don't want to switch between tires. We get snow about twice a year and it's light snow. Once in 3 years we get a hard snow fall.
Kazz, the pavement you have there, are they concrete or tar road? Thanks.
No problem - it's expensive to switch...I know from my own experience. Especially if you have more than 1 car and don't keep the cars for too long. I often sold my cars before any of the summer/winter combo's I had was worn out.
Just keep in mind that all-season rated tires are really not made for the winter - it's not just snow, its icy pavements and just the low temperature. The all season is a compromise and they do loose flexibility and grip at low temperatures even on dry roads while winter tires are mixed for that low temp (they "melt" in the summer heat). So, keep it calm in the winter.
