5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
1st place: Buick Century 2nd place: Mercury Sable 3rd place: Toyota Camry Sedan
Overall:
1st place: Lexus (dominates all premium classes from sport to SUV) 2nd place: Cadillac 3rd place: Mercury
4th place: Toyota
5th place: Acura....
Volvo, MB, Hummer, and VW are in the bottom section
Who would have thought?! Any comments that American cars are ranked more dependable than the Camry?
buick & mercury more dependable then a toyota? i'm willing to put up my camry that says my camry will out last those cars any day of the week, twice on sundays. where did they collect that survey from the 80 yr old plus drivers?
and figure on the fact that these are customer surveys, and dominently older people who care for their cars buy the mercury and buick, where as anyone and everyone buys the camry
i dont know about buick's cars from the last say 8 years but i know previous cars are pretty reliable but you have to remember that old people buy these cars and they dont drive over 50mph so its hard for a car to break down when its not pushed to its limit here and there.

BINGO
Elderly folks more likely to fill out the survey
Elderly folks drive less miles
Elderly folks easier on their cars
Elderly folks much more forgiving to problems

These surveys are total hooey. Any data set can be manipulated to make anything look good - or bad. Most actual sane buyers have never filled out any such survey. Have you seen the geeks that do?
I've owned two Mercury cars before and they are nice cars. And remember that the Second Gen Taurus was the best selling car in the US for every year it was produced.
Well, if one doubts the result of these surveys....than we also need to reject and discount the validity that Lexus is on top of the premium class cars...I just find it interesting that the Sable and Century outdo the camry and not the usual crowd of Honda's, Altima's, Malibu's, maybe even 300's, G8's etc.
if Lexus is at the top, how can Toyota not be? Under the sheet metal, many Toyota's are exactly the same as Lexus. I.E Camry-es350, Land cruiser, and some Lexus truck(forgot model #) and I'm sure theres plenty more. Heck, the es350 uses the exact same drive terrain except for the direct injection

Lexus cars are more limited in production, and theres a more stringent check on the lexus cars before they leave the factory and thus they are better crafted than mass produced toyota vehicles....
plus, lexus owners are more likely to dealer service their vehicles and spend the moeny to properly care for them. in addition, lexus buyers and owners are more gentle on their cars.
