Narrow tire sizes from toyota on camry se

I just saw my friends 2008/2009 suburu outback wagon and it has 225/55/17

and another fellow has a few years old audi sedan with 235/45/17


Why did Toyota come up with 215/55/17 on the SE model.

Would give and take would i get if I put 225/55/17 on the SE stock wheels?

I don't understand what you mean by give and take, but you can put 225/55-17 tires on the stock wheels. Your speedometer will be slightly off and your fuel consumption will go up slightly; however, it should have slightly better grip turning.

I don't know why they chose 215/55-17. Probably a mix of factors including but not limited to: fuel economy, comfort, price, availability, handling.

The 1 thing I always love about Toyota is the parts are very freely available from anyone anywhere. Very affordable comparing to other cars.

Wider tires don't necessarily mean it's better. I mean, even look at the BMW 3-series which are arguably the definition of handling.

On their 335i and 335xi models they use just 225/45R17 tires.

On their 323i, 328i and 328xi they use 205/55R16 tires.

If these sedans do fine with these "narrow" tires, then the Camry is certainly fine with 215/55R17.
