Wider tires don't necessarily mean it's better. I mean, even look at the BMW 3-series which are arguably the definition of handling.
On their 335i and 335xi models they use just 225/45R17 tires.
On their 323i, 328i and 328xi they use 205/55R16 tires.
If these sedans do fine with these "narrow" tires, then the Camry is certainly fine with 215/55R17.
