5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Picked up car on July 25 @ 6pm. Pics are from July 26 @ 9am (Taken Canon SD1000)
Car on homemade ramps being prepared to have LED taillights installed. Easier to get towards screws/bumper. Took me 4 hours to change the outer taillights because I shaved some plastic to make it fit better. I drove around with stock lights on trunk and outer leds for 2 days. I couldnt get a piece of plastic off on trunk lights and decided to break it and order new parts.
1 week later...35% Solargard tints, LED taillights installed, WeatherTech wind deflectors and a few other minor interior cosmetic changes. (Taken with Nikon D70s)
Custom KUSHNECK™ Neckrest Pillow (made by my aunt). The most comfortable pillows you'll ever feel. Literally, it will make you fall asleep.
TRD Leather Shifter Knob (thanks Camry GT-R)
Nav w/Override Hybrid Disc (special thanks to mermejo for doing it for free and not charging $75 like some spammers/scammers), Broadway convex mirror, Beltronics STi and my gf's brothers Nissan Pathfinder with strobe lights..I heard a loud car passing by and took it right when it was passing.
I have K&N Drop-In Filter. I dont have anything TRD except for seatbelt pads and shifter knob, but I put TRD plate frames. I hate those cheesy dealer plates. Swapping the plastic plates on the front with the thick license plate brackets.
White LED interior lights and license plate lights are in the mail from superbrightleds.com. Paid for UltraRacing Front Strut Bar. Once these items arrive, I'll update with pics.
Comments, suggestions? I'm not dropping due to driveways, potholes and the weather we get in NY. We get sometimes get heavy snow and sometimes torrential downpours that roads get flooded bad and quickly. I will probably have it debadged. Need to find fishing wire or might hit up a store. Dont think I have strong enough floss. I'll probably put HIDs in (5000k or 6000k...depending on brand and whats offered)
why do you need the a steering wheel cover when its already Leather? :P
Nice SE
Steering wheel is too thin for me. So adding a steering wheel cover gives it more thickness. Not to mention, when the car is parked and sun is beaming onto steering wheel, with the cover on, the wheel is not hot to touch.
Nice, looks like you got the mods done fast. Would you offer selling us some KUSHNECKS? I'm very interested....tell your auntie I said nice job. ahahhaha

Thanks. I actually bought the LED tails before I got the car. I bought the Viper 5900 alarm (for sale) also before the car but went for a different model.
Here is the story about the Kushneck from the site I built for my aunt.
Quote:
KushNeck came about several years ago but was never marketed...until recently. It started one day when my husband who loves to drive, asked me if I could come up with something to put on his headrest to support his neck while he takes these long drives. So I came up with this idea to sew him a neck cushion so that it not only cushioned his neck but also supported it, so that he wouldn't get tired from taking these long drives. Well, he's been using this pillow for many year until it finally fell apart. Since that time my son and my daughters have all requested me to make them these pillows. We have been using these pillows for the last 10 years and finally they all said that I should make these pillows and sell them. Well thats how KushNeck came about. Everyone in the families are using them and are enjoying it. The KushNeck does make a difference when you are driving long distance. We drive up to New York about 3-4 times a year and these KushNecks have been a great support and relief.
I had my aunt make them for my Camry, she made one for my gf, my Taurus, VW Golf, Honday Odyssey all have it. Everyone in the family has their own.
She started to sell them when she left her job at the Post Office and needed income. We sold about 30 of these (made of Polyester Fiber-Fill...the same material found in pillows) and than she found a new job. With the new job, it took up much of her time. Coming home from work, cooking dinner and being tired at the end of the day, she stopped sewing them. We thought about mass producing these but the cost would be too much to manufacture if these are sold in small quantities.
I will talk to her and see if she is interested in making and selling.
Did you install the TRD shifter facing backwards? Or is it just the pics?
The sculpted area should be facing the front.
Not feelin' the steering wheel cover, it just doesn't go with the car. Maybe a different style will look better.
Other than that, it's a very nice Camry.
HAHAHA...looking at one of the eBay auctions that sells the TRD knob for automatics, I did turn it the wrong way. It will be fixed
I personally think its a whole lot better than those slip-on covers. The bottom spoke looks nasty cuz there was extra string so I just rewrapping it. Going to have my uncle redo it for me when he visits

I'll talk to my aunt. I'm going to see if she can. If she does, its about $30 including shipping. Actually, I might have 1 of each color on me. These were used to take pics of the in that animated gift.

I'm in Flushing. I'm like 1 block away from Francis Lewis Blvd (border of Flushing and Bayside). Up the block from Garden World.

Thanks. I wish I can drop but as mentioned, roads in NYC are bad. Potholes and dips everywhere. We get heavy rain where it floods the roads and snow that can be 6"+. Lowering the car will either flood my engine or scrap my body kit when trying to get out of snow banks that are hard as ice. Not to mention snow plows pushing snow covering the car.
nice car. the SE was my 1st choice, but i lease my cars and they wanted like 330 a month for 36 months! so i figured id get the Le V6 and pay 289. Good luck with it, she will treat you well.

Seatbelt! you're piloting a vehicle were dual vvt-i hitts harder then VTEC and the torquesteer can possibly snap your wrists
Thanks. I already got 3 paint chips already. Ordered touch-up paint to cover up the area. I dont want it to rust. Might take it to a body shop near my gfs that does repainting.
The paint seems so cheap on the Camry. I have a 2003 Honda Odyssey and 1995 Ford Taurus (both beige). None have paint chips. With the SE, I had it for 2 weeks and I have 3 paint chips already.
