Gen6 Voltage survey

For some reason my 09 LE V6 only puts out 13.5v idling while my wife's 2005 SE V6 is 14.2v idling, not really that big of deal but I'm wondering what kind of voltage are you guys getting from your gen6?

I'm going to do the Big 3 upgrade soon.

It's normal. Voltage will go higher when U press on the gas. And when the engine is on, the voltage you are measuring is more coming from the alternator.

The 12V written is the minimum voltage when not in use (car not running). Some batteries design to go lower than this written voltage but most are design to not fall below this voltage.

Surprisingly the voltage doesn't fluctuate much, even if the car is idle or if it's at full throttle. For me, it stays between 13.5-14.0v according to my ScanGuage.

13.8VDC is the optimum voltage, at least for electronics since that's what all mobile electronics are rated to run at.

Yea I know most cars are somewhere around 13.5v idling depending on the electrical system load, but I just found it interesting that the Gen 5.5 has slightly more headroom is all.

headroom?????????

Why not also compare the tire pressure or the dip stick length?

Before you try to be a smart ass and begin running your mouth again(like you usually do) please try to understand what kind of difference and impact a 0.7v would have made in stereo system(amplifiers with unregulated power supply). For regular joe schmuck like you even a 1v difference (13.2 vs 14.2v) ain't going to mean a damn thing. But for me the 0.7v difference will give me a substantial and very noticeable bump in power when I run multiple amplifiers with unregulated power supplies. I'll be doing the Big 3 upgrade next week before I load up the stereo gears in this car, if there's too much voltage drop then I"ll be looking for a bigger aftermarket alternator.

That's the kind of "headroom" I was refering to

Go look at my website to see my voltages. Anything above 12.8 v is good.
