5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My well wearing discontinued Bridgestone G009's need replaced, and I'm considering these AVID TRZ's for my 03, 4 cyl SE. My main concern is they will seem a bit soft/rubbery handling after these 009's, but I like the great snow handling which is even rated better than the 009's:
Anyone have these 215/60/16 TRZ's on your Gen 5 Camry SE, and can please share your thoughts? Especially interested on how you rate handling, and the best would be folks that have tried both the 009's and TRZ's.
It seems Bridgestone has replaced the G009's with "G019 Grid" tires, and perhaps they are a great choice too. Thanks for the help!
I don't have a gen 5 but I just bought a set of 215/50/17 Bridgestone Potenza Grid 019's for my gen 3 SE, and I am very impressed with it's low noise, comfortable ride, and they seem to do well in wet weather as well. I've got about 600 miles on them since I bought them, so they're still kinda new. If I needed to buy tires for another car, I'd seriously consider these again. Hope this helps!

I'm getting the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred. Did get the Avis awhile back but drove it only a few 100 miles when the car got totaled. So can't really tell ya. LOL
i have yokohama avid V4s tires on my camry, and i can say theyre great....they last FOREVER first of all (seen people get 40k out of a set on a 4cyl gen 5) and they offer great handling in all weather conditions and road conditions
im a big fan of the avid series...not too familar with the TRZ, but ive had the H4s and V4s and i love them! my dad even has the avid W4s on his 2005 acura TL (replaced michelin pilot sports) and he perfers them to the michelin or bridgestones by far
I bought a set of Avid TRZs for my Maxima almost 2 years ago, and liked them so well that we bought a set for my wife's 2005 Camry back in June. They are quiet and wear well. We seldom get snow here in winter but we do get a lot of rain, and these are great rain tires. From my experience, I think you will be happy with them.
I had a set of the TRZs on my 97 Camry. They were good tires. Good wear. Very good in the snow (Colorado). They did tend to feel squirmy on grooved concrete highway.
I hope the issue with road grooves and TRZ's is not a huge issue, as I am really liking what I am reading, and they cost a lot less. How is handing with the Maxima? Does it feel softer with more lean b(soft sidewalls), and notably more roll than before the change?
I used to own a Maxima SE w/5sp that really did handle well for a largish sedan, and I never used tires of a lower rating than stock for fear of loosing handling. I'm not an aggressive driver, I just like to keep it tight and the handling crisp.
Wanted to update this post so that it might help others.
Got 4 new 215/60/16 Avid TRZ's that replaced 4 Potenza G009's, and so far so good. These TRZ tires are so much more quiet, very smooth, and have a pretty good feel. Handling seems a bit softer and not as crisp, but now that I have them the lack of noise is appreciated and enjoyable. So far they have been good in light rain, and no snow here yet to comment on. I have another set on my 94 Camry, and now that I have this new set on my 03 SE, I think they are good tires.
