fiber glass body kit repair!!

ok, so some of you who have been on for a while know that i have a full fiberglass kit on my car...

i'm driving an 02 4 banger, lowered on teins, with the wonderous body kit...... on a good day... i have at best 3.5-4 inches of clearance depending...
and the kit sticks way out in the front...

and as some of you have read, and for those who drive cars that are dumped... it is a pain in the ass... you are bound to scrape it on something at some point... especially if it is your daily driver!

that is why most people recommend getting the polyurethane kits....

now if you have any experience with fiber glass, when you hit cement or asphault, or speed bumps, or road debris... or if you are standing too close to it and fart, the fiber glass will snap crackle and pop!!

now the fiber glass repair kits, cost 16 bucks a pop... a pain in the ass to use, and invariably, snaps crackles and pops... bondo... although a temporary fix will also snap crackle and pop!... (and is heavy as shit, so it will sag your kit down...)

well... for the do-it-yourselfers... i found something that will reinforce the body kit, and give it a lot of good rigidity for a lot less... although it is a very permanent fix!!!

self expanding/hardening insulating foam is the shizzle nizzle.... its about 7-8 bucks for a can, and is super light weight.. and will expand to fill the crevices nooks and crannys... and after it is fully hardened, you can hack at it.. cut it etc... to get it into the shape you want....

not it is a little messy to use (and definitely wear gloves when you use it) but by far, it is the best fix that i have been able to find.. that is light... adds rigidty and is cheap!

if you have any questions feel free... and yes i know a thread like this is useless without picts... so harass me enough.. and maybe ill jack up my car to take some picts...

the consistency of the foam once it hardens is like styrefoam.. so it will give a little... but it will not snap crackle and pop... i'm sure if i added it when i first put on my kit, it would be far less damaged than it is... as she sits now, the front has to be repainted, and the cracks repaird.... but ive been driving it for a week... scraped it a few times... and not only is it holding, but the cracks and tears aren't getting worse....

mod on!

-laters...
