5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
On my 2003 Camry, 4cyl, in the past week, when slowing down to a stop, the car is making a jerking motion. It feels like you are running over something. It doesn't do it every stop though. Is this something I should worry about?? The transmission was flushed last summer, its been about 8k since thean, the fluid doesn't smell burnt at all, slightly brown in color.
If the transmission fluid is slightly brown I'd recommend that you change the fluid. If you have it flushed do not use any chemicals when flushing the transmission fluid. Use only the proper fluid.
Is the MIL on?
If the MIL isn't on you may want to reset the ECU.
I'll try resetting the ECM and see what happens. I got a case of the T4 ATF so i will try draining the transmission this weekend. When it was flushed, I don't think it was a chemical flush, just flushed with fluid. The dealer flushed the transmission when I bought it in complaining of hard shift at higher RPM's. They stated that is was normal due to different pressure in the torque converter and the transmission, or something like that. I forgot what the paper stated. I'm just worried that it will go out, once the powertrain is outta warrenty in October.

It would be a good idea to have the dealer check it out and verify your concern. That way if there is a problem just outside of the warranty period you may be able to get any problem with the transmission good willed.
I tried resetting the ECM, no luck, the car has not relearned its idleing yet, I might have to reset it again. With the A/C the car is vibrating really bad at a stop light. The problem is happening when slowing down and you can hear/feel it at 16 MPH. When its hot outside, you can hear and feel it like 85% of the time when slowing down. At night, maybe half the time, you can feel it not as bad though. Not sure if I want to drain the transmission and see if it goes away, or just take it in next week as it is.
of course the problem didn't happen when I took the car into the dealer. they drove the car twice and I drove it with the service adivser, It might have done it once when I was i driving it but the road was bumpy, so I'm not sure.
I am now convinced its the transmission cause if I turn off overdrive, it doesn't jerk.

Good will warranty repair? The only kind of "will" that Toyota has is "bad will" which it doesn't hesitate to share even when someone's clearly still within warranty. It's a good suggestion that you made, but it won't work with this car brand.

it seems to be doing it mostly during the day, when its warm outside, I do half of my driving at day, other half at night, and its during the day when you feel the car jolt when you slow down.
it started doing this after a trip up to vegas a few weeks ago. maybe the strain going up the hills damaged something in there.
Sometimes the car shifts hard under acceleration, the RPM's go up but the car doesn't speed up like it should. This happens when you go to pass/speed up.
I looked in the service book and it seems like the tranmission shifts 3 to 2 at 11 to 15mph. I dont have the slightest idea on how the gear box works, not sure what gear I am in at whatever time.
I want to get this resolved before Oct since thats when the powertrain warrenty is up. The service advisor did say least I brought it in and its documented if something happens once the warranty is up. I dont wanna get stuck with a 2k+ repair bill in 3 or 4 months
edit:
it will do it right away from a cold start. you have to accelerate the car up to past 35 to get it to jolt. you can really feel it when you are going down hill. feels almost like someone runs into the backend of the car.
