5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Looking for more opinions before I sign on the dotted line.
I have decided to purchase a Camry SE 4cyl. I have 2 dealers with cars I like.
I am being picky on color (Red) and the 4 cyl SE is not abundant. Prices are before tax and lic.
One is coming straight to the dealer, has a spoiler and floormats for 21,500.
The other is a twice dealer trade with the JBL 6CD/Bluetooth, Sport Convenience package with the auto dim mirror/compass - garage door opener, heated mirrors, floormats for 21,300. But it has 500 miles on it (presumably from driving from dealer to dealer).
Is the upgraded radio, mirrors, and remote worth having 500 miles on my new car?
Should the 500 miles bother me?
The car also has black trim strips around the wheel wells that I have not noticed on other SE's. Any idea what this is?
Thanks for the help. Half the fun of getting ready to buy a Camry was finding this forum.

Don't think twice! Just inspect the vehicle before you drive off the lot. You don't have to worry about the 500 miles on the odometer. It's still a brand new car, if they have not registered/titled it to someone else.
The cars are what I want right now. I am in the air about the upgraded stereo and posted a thread and got great feedback on the bluetooth operation (votes were pretty even on this).
Ordering a car looks like up to 120 days, and I'm just not that interested in waiting.
What are you looking at for accurate invoice price and hold back?
Thanks so much!
Any thoughts on the "cheesy" black trim around the wheels?

I've got an '07 SE and I'm not really sure what you're talking about. See if you can find any pictures of what you're referring to, otherwise I'm not sure what to tell you. I don't have the upgraded stereo and I wish I did. (Actually, I wish it was just easier to upgrade the stereo/speakers on your own) I have the VSC and am glad to have it.
I say VSC/Traction is a must. My uncle said it has saved his life multiple times on roadtrips.
120 days waiting period? I had to wait for my car and it was only like 25 days. Car was coming off production line and I guess the hold up was the delivery.
Just make sure you get the car you want. 500 miles is the very last thing to worry about. You'll probably cover more than that in the first few weeks. Absolutely no big deal whatsoever. Just go over ANY car, regardless of mileage, with a fine-tooth comb to make sure everything is OK and in "brand new" condition. Get them to fix/replace anything that isn't.
Thanks for the research help.
The Titus car is pretty loaded, but helps.
The PA car is great, but I'm not sure it will help my negotiations.
People seem to loose their sensibility out here in the Pacific Northwest when it comes to Toyota and the dealers can usually get the premium dollar. It's also not hard for them to sell the Red SE's.
This should help and it's making me feel better about what I'm seeing.
Now, here's a trouble-making comment:
Any comments on the Camry over the Malibu? (besides the resale)
The dealer with the 500 mile car is picking it up. I think I actually drove it while at the other dealer. It seemed to pull a little to the right compared to other SE's I have driven. I will get out my fine tooth comb and be more objective driving it when he gets it in.

I think some dealer put it on thinking it looked sporty. Might leave it, might try to take it off if I get the car.

Thanks Nation!
Before you sign, test drive it. if the car pulls, have them take a look at it. Never sign until you are satisified with the cars condition.
Camry is more reliable and you'll get your money's worth. I will never purchase an American car.
