Gen6 TPMS on 07XLE and changing new tires

Hello,

Recently my mechanic (non toyota) told me that I will need to change my tires soon. they're getting balder/thinner and he suggested to do it before winter came (Wisconsin weather sucks).

Currently it's at ~37k and the OEM tires is the Turanza EL400 (215/60/16).

I've read many posts on this forum and finally decided on a new set of tires (Yokohama Avid TRZ).
My local tire shop got a set of this in stock for a decent price.
Tomorrow I'll be getting it installed on my 07 XLE camry.

Do I need to worry about the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor) since I'm only changing the tires?? (I will be using the same wheels)

From the many treads that I've read about TPMS, I know for certain that if i'm changing my wheels, I will need to install or move the TPMS from the old wheels to the new ones. However; I couldn't find any info on whether I need to worry about TPMS if I'm only changing the tires.

Thank you

I don't think so, unless you change the rims too.

Hey, where are you from? Are you Indonesian? Because your name sounds like one.

Your only worry is that of the tire shop breaking one during the process.

37k.. wow.. mine is almost 50k. Anyway, changing mine before winter too.

No need to worry about the TPMS. It's the valve stem also. My only concern would be some dumb mechanic that don't know it's a TPMS and trash it and install new non TPMS valve stem.

Once you start driving, the car would alert you though.

So I should tell them that this car have the TPMS and they should know about it right?

Yes 37k for the oem tires seems low, but if you searched on this website for gen6 camry, some people are reporting that they need to change the oem tires after only about 15k or 25k.

If that's the case, then I should press the TPMS reset button for 10-15 secs right? Then everything should be set after that?

Like stated above, you shouldn't have to worry about anything other than the mechanic breaking a sensor. Just to be sure, "remind" them that your car is equipped with a TPMS. They should know anyway, but I would just to be on the safe side.

Most good tire shops nowadays have a checklist that they go through before they even start the car... making sure that all the lugnuts are all present, checking for a TPMS, and so on. They should check anyway... but like I said, better to be on a safe side and remind them.

I was referring to if the shop threw out your TPMS and put regular valve stems. Before you even drive off, you can also tell if its a TPMS or those plastic rubber looking stems.

I don't think so, the TPMS is attached to the rim not the tire. Ask them if they know how to work with TPMS wheels, it's a fair question.

Also, take the stem caps off before you go and stick them in your pocket so they don't get lost. The manual says to use those and keep them tight but you can't buy them anywhere I can find... not even at the dealer !!

Are their special stem caps for the TPMS stems or will any plastic stem cap be ok?

They look like regular normal caps.
