5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Search all over and saw 1 thread talks about this info being in the owner manual.. I check it and confirm that this info is not in the owner manual... unless I missed it again.......
Car is Camry '07 SE V6. Come with OEM alarm or anti thief or whatever they call it now.. U know what I mean. Wait, I still have the sticker paper..... it is called "Anti-lock Brake".. O wait, that's not it ..........OK.. it say "Power Door locks w/ Anti-Lockout Feature". O great. I want the Anti-Anti-Lockout.
What I want to do is have my car lock itself after a few minutes.
In the owner manual, on page 41 I see the 2 conditions and ways to change it's settings:
1) Locking with shift position out of "P" will cause the car to lock doors.
2) When speed reach above 12mph will cause it to lock the doors too.
I want........
3) Car to lock if key went from ON to Off and door open. (basically leaving the car) And car will lock after a set time like 5mins. Is this possible with the OEM alarm? Or basically can I turn off this great Anti-Lockout Feature?
===========
Reason I want to do this now after 2 years of having the car is because there had been some thieveries in my neighborhood. House broken into, car broken into, car wheel get stolen.
I have a feeling I gonna get flame for this cause this seem like a topic that would be covered many times over.
I don't think it's possible with the OEM alarm/keyless entry sytem.
Even with my AutoMate (Add-On) alarm, it does arm itself after a define period of time, but it does not lock the doors. Don't know why, but I don't really need that feature, because sometimes I left the keys in the car...
So you want your car to lock itself after you turn it off and walk away?
No, there is no option for this to happen unless you have an aftermarket alarm installed.
You can, however, simply press the lock button when you get out each time.
To tell you the truth, I had an aftermarket alarm that had that feature installed on my 1998 Camry... it sucked. Seems like a really good idea- until you realize that there is nothing preventing the system from locking itself while the keys are still inside. Not that there are many situations where that would happen, but all it takes is once.
I left my keys in the car once in my garage, and the next morning I was locked out. Unfortunately, my other key was on my wife's keychain- and she had already gone to work.
Luckily the Smartkey system on my '07 won't let anything like that happen. Best invention ever. (although it won't auto-lock after you leave the car.)
Smartkey doesn't have the autolock feature? That's weak. I thought it locks when you're away from your car...?
Nope. Not really a big deal. Just hit the lock button on the inner door, or if that's too hard, push the black button the exterior door handle, or the keyfob, or if you have energy, manually flip the door lock.
Four different ways to lock the car... now that's luxury... and lazyness.
Wait- 5 ways! (you can turn the key in the driver's door too) Holy crap!
It is really, really, really, hard to remember to push the lock button before getting out of the car or pushing the remote lock button when leaving the vehicle but most people can handle it.
"Search all over and saw 1 thread" Shield for this is already activated.. see.
All the other search results were talking about disable autlocking when shift out of "P" and stuff. Not related to my Time Out Auto Lock.

Yes, I want my car to lock itself even when the key is inside. I take my key out ALL the time even when I fill my gas. It is not wise to leave the key inside when you are not there. I prefer having stuck there and know where my car is and get help..... than to have it stolen and someone take it for a joy ride. I know my car won't start without the key but still I don't want any of my item missing or the chance that they try to hotwire my car.
Do you know that the '07 also have the credit card plastic key? That plastic key can open the door.

Add to that the key get press inside your pants to unlock the door without your notice. This is the feature I want to avoid. If the key accidentally press to unlock, the car will stay unlock....... I want the car to timeout and lock it back.
An unlock car is just asking for trouble so everything need to stay lock.
This sux, so now I can't put my keys in my pants pocket cause I have seen it get accidentally press.

Not sure if the Gen 6 is different, but when I hit the unlock key the car will lock itself after 30 seconds if a door is not opened.

Yes, that is how the GEN6 works although the OP hasn't figured that out as of his last post.

Yep, the Gen 6 is also like that.
The question that the OP asked is if the car will lock itself if you walk away.
Now the question has turned to: will it relock if unlocked with the transmitter?
Gen 6 Camrys WILL NOT automatically lock when you exit the vehicle and close the door.
Gen 6 Camrys WILL relock automatically if you press the "unlock" button on the transmitter and don't open a door within 30 seconds. (This IS in the owners manual)

The OP changed the question... or more like added on to it:

I tried it several ways around what you said.. it is actually 1minute but if the door were open in anyway than it cancel the 1min and just not lock. So, no way to have it lock in 1min every time no matter what?
Many times already that I am sure I lock the door but find it unlock. It's very annoying. My sister keep lots of quarters in her car tray in case she need it for parking meters.. they were all gone over night.
The OP changed the question... or more like added on to it:
Sorry if it seem like I change the question. I simply want the car always time out and lock itself no matter what. It seem like it already have everything it need to do this feature.. so how to get this feature turn on is the question. Is that too much to ask?
Once I was near my car with the keys in my pocket and the car beep. While the many other times I find my car unlock before I unlock them. You can tell by the sound when you unlock. If it goes from Lock to Unlock, it sound harder. If it try to unlock when it is already unlock, it sound like a soft buzz and just quite.
