Hello everyone
I have a 2008 camry SE. This morning i was at a red light and a Pontiac G6 hit me from the back. I have never been in an accident, so I’m not sure what I’m to do. Also I’m an international student so I’m basically here on my own. I called my insurance company and opened a claim. Right now I have two options. My deductable is $500 and liberty mutual is my insurance company.
1) I can pay my deductable and have my insurance company contact the G6's insurance company and have them take care of everything. Rental car, labor, parts( if necessary) ect….
2) I can contact the G6's insurance company myself and have them pay for everything without getting my insurance company involved..
if I chose option 1 and pay my deductable, my insurance person said that if I am not at fault , after investigation, I will be reimbursed for the $500.
Is there a chance that I could end up being at fault? The police came to the scene but didn’t write anything down, or do any kind of paper work. She just told us to exchange info and take care of it ourselves…. Here are pictures of the damage. Please give me some advice on what to do with respect to the damage. I’m thinking option 2 just because there is not much damage, but then again I’m only 19…
there are minor dents along with scratches. im guessing that the G6 was breaking from 30MPH when the collision happened... also around how much will it cost to have this fixed???
Hit from the back? It's never your fault. Let your insurance company deal with it, that's what you paid them for. They'll return your $500.
Who's your insurance company?
My old '00 Corolla was hit from the back too, a long time ago though, but same situation. I let my insurance deal with it, and yes they return my deductible fee.
You may want to tell them to get the adjuster guy to see your car ASAP, because sometimes they're just taking their coffee time too long.
kick it some more and make the bumper fall off...so it looks worse lol jk. i'd go after g6 insur since he hit you from behind so its not your fault. i wouldnt pay anything even if they my insur say they will give me my money back **IF** it's not my fault. not your fault so make g6 insur pay.
I agree with Jack_Frost above... contact the G6's insurance company, and they will probably be willing to let you have the work paid directly through them.
This prevents you from having to front $500 of your own money while the insurance companies work through the details. Saves you grief and unnecessary paperwork.
2) I can contact the G6's insurance company myself and have them pay for everything without getting my insurance company involved..
do that.
i got in an accident a few months ago driving my dads truck, some guy pulled up and hit me
we contacted both insurance at first but that guys insurance agreed that it was his fault so we cancel the claim with our insurance and used the other persons insurance to do everything
if you talk to your insurance company about it then they will deal with the other insurance company for the most part.. i would advise you contact yours about it, thats what they are there for.
I do have experience too, I was hit by a truck last april and took about 6k in damage to my driver's side. His insurance company paid for it but mine helped out a lot as far as the communications. I just called my adjustor every other day or so and he told me what was going on.

Exactly! You paid your insurance company a lot of money, let them do the dirty work for you, just sit back and enjoy the rental car.

My girlfriend got into an accident last week and her damage was a lot worse. She was in traffic on the highway and all cars were stopped. Car behind her rammed into her. She has two holes thanks to license plate screws from other persons car, padding behind bumper was damaged (according to auto shop), bumper was lifted off and up..hitting the bottom of trunk and tabs on bumper were damaged. I personally would not call the other persons insurance company and handle the situation yourself.
#1. considering you're an international student and never been in an accident, you might not know everything and his insurance company will probably trick you and take advantage of that. In other words, they might mislead you.
#2. do you have full coverage? If so, let your insurance company handle it. Considering you dont have a police report, let your insurance company handle the situation. Even if you're not at fault, you'll still have to pay the deductible and when the G6's insurance company pays, you'll be paid back.
#3. when you call your insurance company, they'll send an adjuster out to take a look at the damage, take pictures and will give you paperwork. From there, you either find your own autoshop to get it repaired or through the G6's insurances authorized shops.
To fix my gfs 2003 Honda Accord rear bumper...it will be $2000-3000.

thanks for the honest replies.... i do have full coverage and i am leaning towards the first option letting my insurance company take care of everything. i have one more concern though, if i do get my insurance company involved should i expect my insurance cost to go up???
also i hate the thought of leaving my car at a repair shop overnight... it just makes me uneasy :-/

Just when I got my springs and rims I was rear ended also and since it was not fault I went thru his insurance and it was very easy. They paid for everything including the rental and I got to pick my body shop and since I work for a Toyota dealership it went to people I know very well. Of course I gave my insurance a heads up about the whole thing.
1) contact both insurance companies and inform them of the situation.
2) request a claims adjuster and show him pictures that you took.
3) upon investigation or admittance of fault, you will be in the clear.
