Tranny Question

Hello all Iam new and have done a search but did not find the answer to my question.

I wasnt paying attention and changing my oil for the first time on my 08 Camry, when i accidently pulled the plug for the tranny fluid. Only a cup or two came out, but after i changed my oil i went to check fluid i found out there is no dip stick for tranny fluid. I keep reading the tranny is sensitive to fluid level, so now i'm worried.

Were in the hell to you check fluid and add any if need be?

Before i call the dealer and have them run through the BS about scheduling an appointment to look at it.

thanks

You must have a V6 if you don't have a dipstick.

Get into your dealer and have them check and add.

The transmission fluid must be warmed up in a tight temp. range when checking and filling.

Ref: TSB-0129-08 July 9, 2008

For vehicles equipped with a transmission requiring the use of the overflow type automatic
transmission fluid (ATF) inspection process, the ATF must be within a specific temperature range for
accurate fluid level inspection. Inspecting the ATF outside of the specified temperature range may
result in incorrect ATF fluid levels and could lead to shift quality, M.I.L. “ON”, and/or transmission
damage issues. Please see the information in this bulletin for updated ATF level inspection
temperature ranges.

It's possible to check the fluid level without the scantool. In the service manual, there are instructions on how to use a SST that's essentially a jumper wire to put the transmission into a "fluid level check mode." You'll still need a fluid pump of some kind to fill the transmission though.
