03 2.4L, automatic grocery gettin camry. I'm only getting 25 miles to the foot on the highway. Whats wrong here? That's even taking it pretty easy. Friend of mine just bought an 08 Honda civic si and he is getting 29 solid. I ride to work with him everyother week so I checked it myself and he's not lying. Funny thing is, HE'S IN VTEC EVERY TIME HE PULLS OUT. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but if he gets 29 beating the crap outta his car, then babying mine I should see above 30 right? Car has 75K on it, and there is no codes or anything. Am I doing somethign wrong, am I supposed to turn off the over drive on back roads or what, please help. thanks
you gotta remember the camry is not a light car by far. Have you been keeping up on regular maintenance? How would you describe you "taking it easy". How much city driving are you doing mixed in with that highway, and also how do you calculate your mpg..
well i drive almost exactly 100 miles a day and 1/2 of that is all highway. I try to keep it 70 or under on the by pass and try not to accelerate hard when in the country.

so half of that, 50, is city driving? if thats the case, thats your answer right there. a mix between city and hwy driving should yield ~25mpg. In my 05 SE I4, i do all city driving and only get 20mpg, but thats because i live in nyc. when i do take road trips, i can get 30mpg all hwy. Average those two together and you get 25mpg.
Again, how do you determine your mpg? and what is the maintenance history?

My apologies for neglecting the last two questions. Maintenance is well kept and mileage, well its just simple math. How ever many gallons the pump says once I fill up, I divide that into the amount of miles I have traveled since the last fill up. Its pretty fool proof but I was going to do a city/highway experiment, but I don't have the time to mess with that.

Yes, that's the correct way to calculate yoru MPG.

When I drove like I stole it + imaginary cops behind me... I got 21.91mpg. The 3.5L can really suck but also kick ass power. LOL
But you got a V6, and I only got 4... How come they have the same MPG?

Cause I slam on the gas only 3 times doing about 120mph. I was scared my imaginary cops will radio to the real cops. So I didn't floor the entire tank.
I can't accelerate fast in the city if I want to keep that 29mpg. I try hard to keep the RPM under #2.
