5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I bought my car in April and took it right off the truck. Since then I have noticed a dull spot around the passenger side dash speaker. You can only notice it in direct sunlight. The best way to describe it is an inconsistency in the coating on the dash.
I never applied anything to the dash until I noticed this for the first time. Armor-all covers it up. I have cleaned the dash with water and other dash cleaning products hoping it was something the dealer applied [and happened to miss this area], but it did not make it any better.
Any suggestions? My final thought on this is that this is how the dash was made and I live with it, but was curious what Toyota Nation suggests.

Its under warranty, you shouldn't have to live with in. I would suggest taking it in and have the dealer examine it. If you think and feel that it is a defect, they would probably do something about it for you.

True. My guess is the only solution is to replace the dash. Then I look at:
Replace Dash [it will never be the same again] vs. Live with it
My dash is black BTW. Any other Camry owners notice this?

You can decide on whether to replace the dash or not after it has been look at by the dealer. As long as it is documented, you can choose to have it done at a later day, just before it is out of warranty or before your sell it. It is very true that by replacing the dash you might end up with squeaks and rattles.

I have a dull spot on my driver's door panel below the armrest, but you can only see it under specific lighting conditions. I'd rather leave it than risk a reduction in build quality once they rebuild your dash area.

I had the same issue as Tek my dash was dull near the speaker all I did was use McGuires protectant
and rubbed it in then did a second coat when I did my whole dash, problem solved. Hope this helps TEK.
BTW the sun really seems to hit that area near the front speakers, mine appeared dull only on the driver's side.

It is a good idea, however, once you put anything on it, the dealership might deny the coverage to fix it under warranty. If they had it documented before anything was done than they have no option even if they have to replace the dash. On a new car with less than six months on it, I would suggest have the dealer look at it first.

The dealership uses CarBrite interior and exterior detail spray. It is made for rubber, vinyl, and so forth. At any rate they let me apply some of that to the area as that is what they use on all the new Toyota models.
Once the sun comes out again I will know if this fixed it. It looks like that area might have been missed when the car was cleaned and that is why the dash is not consistent.
I will post back if it does fix the issue.

There is always the possibility that it will cause other problems when trying to fix a concern like the one you have. You can always voice out that concern to your dealer and see what options they can come up with short of replacing the dash pad.
