5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Occasionally, my transmission will slip out of gear and will rev-up for a moment before dropping back into gear. It's brief, and it has only happened a few times since I bought the car a few weeks ago. I called the dealer and they tried to tell me it was normal for this car, but I don't buy it after reading all the posts about new Camry transmission flare.
So what should I do? I'm afraid if I bring it back to the dealer, they will go for a quick test drive and be unable to reproduce it (I can't reliably reproduce it either), especially considering how they are denying it's a problem without even seeing the car. I really don't want to waste my time with the hassle of bringing in my car for service when they aren't going to do anything.

Advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
I had hoped that this problem had been fixed, but I see that it has not. I would say that you will get a few posts ( some kind, some not) on this subject.

No clue what u r talking about. But it seem Ur brain isn't exactly here either.
That transflash fix might do the job. U need to pay more attention on when it does it. Like during cold start or while slowing down or etc.
I've experienced this as well. I mentioned this to dealer and they also said it was normal. The Service Advisor said it was the overdrive kicking in or something like that. I mentioned the transmission flare and TSB to him and I forgot what he said.
However, I notice that this only happens if the car is not warmed up. In other words, if I wake up in the morning, start the car up and drive away immediately, this happens. If I start the car, let it sit for 1-2 mins, its fine. I think I have a video of this for my 09 SE V6. Only once or twice that this happened when I got to work...20 mins on the road.
This is similar to the transmission flare when you get around the 40mph range, the RPM jumps up 500-750RPMs and drops back down. This usually happens when the RPM is around the 2000 and when I hit around 40mph, the RPM jumps from 2000 to about 2500-2750 and than back down to 2000.

No problem with my brain, it is a fact that there are a few flamers that post here.
Now back to the OP, I would not settle with the "that is normal" explanation from the dealer. I would think that a new Cam would have the latest software corrections for the transmission slipping.

*Light up the flame on White95Cam* LOL j/k
I thought it is obvious that he is not taking the "normal" excuse which is why he is here.
From what I understand, he want to know if anyone have same problem and know how to reproduce it. Which dcemureviews already answer.
If you do not accept what the dealer had said, take it to a different one. Or contact Toyota customer service, see if they can tell you anything. Be sure to have all the information you can provide, when do you notice the problem, and how it feels, anything that you feel that they would ask.
What was the speed you were driving at when it happen? 1-2 shift or 2-3 shift, what gear was it in? Do you have a tach on the car, what was the rpm change when it acts up? Was the car cold when it happen?
Is it the first shift when the car is completely cold? What I meant is did you just took off and hit that speed for the first time during your drive? Going up a slight incline?
N.E.O.

No incline. No cold start. I think this was when I got to work (20-25 mins after I left the house). I havent experienced this lately.
It seem like a normal shifting to me. Sure the RPM is high cause you were accelerating a little above normal at the time. That was shifting from 3rd to 4th.
If U acc slower than around that 40mph speed it would be shifting from 4th to 5th and smoother. The slowest acceleration that I've ever tried, the highest 6th gear shift in at around 48mph. Just see the RPM fall about 1 notch but can't feel anything.
With the flair, even with a slow slow acceleration keeping RPM at 1.5K and when the flair happen RPM jump to 2.5K. Once I was piss so I press RPM to 3K and when the flair happen the RPM jump to redline.
I do notice my car takes about 1 or maybe 2 mins to warm up even when I was driving on a hot day. And during this warm up period the RPM run higher and car don't move much. I usually let it crawl out of the parking lot. I was cooking and my car was trying to warm up.
I got 2008 se v6 and yes i notice rpm jump also. I am pretty sure it's not normal but it don't bug me and not causing any problem that i can tell. So i am not doing anything to get it resolved.

So thats how bad the RPM jumps. Well when the RPM jumps for me, the car jerks. When I accelerate, I try not to go over 2.5k unless I'm getting onto highway and need to speed, change lane or get in front of a car.
