5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just noticed a small patch of bird dropping on my 09 camry's roof when I wash the car, it appear dried, after removing it I notice that shit ate through the clear coat and into the paint , it left a peny size uneven texture on the surface, when I ran my finger across the patch it felt very rough like cement....ugh! buffing it with wax and polish ain't going to help at this point, I don't think this is something i can repair myself so looks like it will need a trip to the body shop now. What's the damage? anybody know approximately how much is it to repair stuff like this? or do I need to repaint the entire roof?

My camry is metallic gray and the bird shit was also grayish color that's why I didn't notice it till I wash the car today, usually when I see whitish color shit on the paint I remove it immediately, My car is only a little over a month old and about 2500 miles on the odo and now I need paint job dammit, bird shit suck ass!

I hate those. I've been lucky so far and none of them seem to be making any marks on my paint. Once I just finish washing the car and some birds sitting in the tree right over head decided they want me to wash it again. Just when I put the hose away they land 4 or 5 drops.

I have about 1700 on the ODO and I have 3 paint chips.
Ditto on mine 02. On the hood. I guess they contain acids! what do these birds eat ...
Some of them eat acidic fruits and sand, usually I spray some bug&tar removal on that shit and let it soak for a few minutes, then gently lift off that stuff instead of wiping and end up scratching the paint. small chips can be touch up easily but man these bird shit eat right through the paint, I washed the car last weekend and it wasn't there before, so the most it was sitting on the roof for no more than 6 days...

You know, for some reasons, bright colors attract them most. Mine is silver, and it attracts them like crazy, and so were my old cars, which were silver as well.
Yup, the best thing to do is just wash the area ASAP, that's why I always have water bottle available in the trunk, for immediate wash.
Will waxing the car help a little?
I've had my car for amost a year now, 10,000 Mi, so many chips on the front end, and the windshield as well. I hate this cheap paint clear coat.
njerald gave you some good advice on the paint. Seal the paint with a good sealant (Klasse, Wolfgang, Zaino, etc) let it cure 12 to 24 hours and top with a good coat of carnauba wax (not cleaner wax). The wax topper is a sacrificial layer that has good resistance to the ammonia in bird crap. It will also make the car easier to clean.
Another tip is to lightly mist the car with a quick detailer after washing your car and before drying it off. This will give the shine a boost and help protect the wax layer as you dry it with a good microfiber.
Seal every 6 months, wax every 4 to 6 weeks and you should be happy with the results.

I just had a hood repaint and was wondering if anyone had used the 3M film/bra and did it protect the leading edge of the hood/fenders?
