My 4 cyl/2AZ-FE Camry needs its water pump replaced, and I'm curious what others have paid at a Toyota dealership for this repair, and/or any of you techs can tell me the cost and book hrs it requires... Really want to do the repair myself, but my current situation does not allow this.
My first dealer quote was just shy of $500, which seemed a bit high to me.
i paid just over 700 for the water pump and timing belt (i have a V6)..when i go out to my car i'll look to see how much the water pump cost, and give a rough estimate on the labour.

labor time for customer pay water pump is 1.4 hours...
part should be like $150.00...plus the cost of the coolant
it all depends on what the dealer's hourly rate is etc....somwhere in the $400 range seems about right, but $500 seems excessive...id look into where and what theyre charging you for before you get it done.
Thanks everyone. Car is an 03 with a 4 cyl, w/87k miles. I asked him book hrs, and was told almost 3. I'm going to ask a few other dealers within 25 miles, and hope for a better $$$.
...Just got a call back from another dealer, and the cost was $326.91. I asked is this was for a reman or new pump, and was told new Toyota pump. Think I will call the original closer dealer and see if they will do better. I used to write Toyota service and work in the shop, and am amazed when I speak with some of these service writers at their total lack of basic automotive knowledge. I hope the master tech who will do the work is competent, as this will be about the only time I have ever had anyone service my car aside from recalls or TSB's.
Thanks!

Reason: added mileage

Have you ever changed the original coolant? Did the 03s come with the red or the pink Coolant? 326 dollars sounds fair for the water pump replacement.
No change, as the coolant is pink SLL. I know I could have, and I do change the "no service" ATF, but IMO the pump went south on its own regardless if I changed it every 25k. $326 seems to be fair, and I may jump on it.

The V6 is a very different beast, that has the water pump mounted behind the timing belt - a major job. The 4 cylinder has it on the outside.

Yeah, I know and my wife is in total shock that I am not fixing it myself! She has seen me pull transmissions, do T-belts, adjust valves, replace every external engine part, literally dozens of oil changes, flushes, brake work, CV shafts... You name it, and this was at home away from the dealerships where I worked! I just moved into a rental, and really don't have all my stuff unpacked, and no garage.
I have the Toyota shop manual, know I could do it w/o a garage, but something is telling me "Ef it, let someone else do it", plus with my wife doing interstate travel she at least gets a year warranty. Ah hell, maybe I'll buy the pump, some coolant, and grab my FIPG and JUST DO IT.
