HELP!!! '04 Camry I4 cyl. stalls after new battery installed!
Hi guys,
I need help, after installing a new battery on my car the engine idle started dropping all the way down almost to 100 - 150 rpm but it doesn't quite stall...
I did some research and some says I just need to drive the car - I've driven it several miles but it's still the same.
Some say the computer needs to be reset - how do I do this?
I drove about 5 miles. top speed was about 55 mph... mostly around 40 mph though. Stopped about 15 times total.
What else should I do to get this idle thing fixed? Usually when I'm stopped at a light, to prevent it from stalling, I put the car in Neutral and press on the gas pedal to maintain around 750 to 1,000 rpm so it doesn't stall.
The distance and speed you had driven should have done it.
How many mile does the car have?
You may want to try to reset the system one more time, disconnect the battery terminals and touch the cables together for a minute or so. Reconnect the battery and try it once more.
When you replaced the battery the computer was reset.
You don't have to drive the car, you have to idle (manual), or idle the car in gear (automatic). The car can't relearn idle if you're driving it.
There are times that it will not relearn idle properly. Usually that's because the throttle body is too dirty. If the car won't relearn idle properly by itself, cleaning the throttle plate and throttle body should take care of the problem.
You can do a search to find threads on how to properly clean the throttle body without damaging it.
Remember, if you were properly maintaining your vehicle you likely wouldn't have this problem.
