Gen6 Trunk (Cargo) + License Plate LED Swap DIY

Okay guys, here's a DIY guide for swapping the Cargo and License Plate lights to LED's.

I know we have this thread already..... Do we? But 1 more wouldn't hurt.

I bought these from eBay.

OEM and LED.

Cargo DIY.

You don't have to remove it, I did because I want to see what the assembly looks like. Plus, it gets hot fast, and I forgot my glove.

To release cable.

Take out the OEM bulb and put in the LED.

Put everything back and this is the final product.

License Plate DIY.

You don't have to remove all the clips, I only removed the these ones (both sides).

I would recommend to store the clips in the little box on the left side of the trunk, so that you don't lose them.

Disconnect the cable.

Install the new LED bulb.

LED

OEM.

Finished.

Put everything back nicely.

Note: If there is no lighting after inserting LED bulbs into socket, change the terminal oppositely.

I will take night pics when it gets dark later.

I know you said you will post some night photos later, but can you tell us if the trunk LED is brighter than the OEM bulb?

I'm not as concerned about the license plate light as the trunk, but that sounds great!

sorry i totally misread it lolz, but for the trunk. i'd say get the one that has the most led emitting from it. because you need the 360 degrees for maximum brightness.

i think i got the hp6 from superbrightleds for the trunk

There's no need to upgrade the wiring for this? No voltage or heat problems? Just drop in the new bulbs?

Gen6

I know for sure that I've opened my trunk once at night in 29 months but it could have been twice.

Given the messed up English on the packaging, I'm going to guess these are your run of the mill low output LEDs so there's not going to be any problem with heat. If he were putting Luxeons or something of that nature, then that's another issue since those things will need heatsinks for extended use.

Most LEDs use far less power than incandescent and halogen bulbs with equivalent output so there is no need to upgrade wiring.

Your blue circle....its the wrong side. Thats not the tab...you circled the hinge. The tab to open the cover is on the left. see my image below

LEDs due not require a lot of power. Its plug and play as discussed and show in other LED threads.

Sorry, my bad, they look similar, but you get the idea. Thanks for the correction.

Yes, it's better, but I'm never good at wire slicing, and I like to keep the factory look.

Yes, as long as they work, I can leave with some cheap ones.
I've wasted enough money with my PIAA headlights already. But I get what I paid for.
