The dealer tryng to hose me? Saying I need motor mounts and valve cover gaskets

I searched and dont' see where any one has had their motor mounts OR valve cover gaskets replaced.
They want $425 for the valve cover gaskets and $500 for the motor mounts.
I don't hear any clunking noise from engine and I see some "residue" on the head but not any active leaks.

This started when I took it in for my timing belt, water pump and oil seals (90K service).

Anyone else had any o this done?

oops,
Gen 5 V6 2002 SE

At some point your car will start eating up many maintenance dollars. And it may be worth while to upgrade to a newer car.

My old 1998 Camry V6 I put 283,000 miles on , I replaced the motor mounts after 9 years and 220,00 miles, rubber parts break down. I also replace some suspension bushings.

I now have a 2008 Camry SE V6. Have had no warranty or any other problems
so far after 9 months and 13,000 miles

I would look for a Japan motors independent shop, were the techs were former Toyota employees.

i suggest buy the oem part and go to a local shop and get it install, way cheaper.

My friend got an quote for valve cover gaskets and a new radatior for about 1200, brought it to my mom friend auto shop and got everyting for under 500 but the stuff is not oem.

Take it to another shop, or shops and get some better price quotes.

its possible it needs both....valve cover gaskets leak notoriously on the 1mz 3.0 V6 engines
the rubber in the motor mounts tends to wear out pretty easily as well...
still id get a second opinon...find a reliable shop, buy the oem toyota parts and have an independant shop install them and im sure youll save some money

if your motor mounts are breaking down, your engine will start to lean over and sag in the engine bay and eventually rub on a cv boot braking it.

I also had to replace wheel bearings. 1998 camry v6 230,000miles.

The car only has 90K miles.

Watch the engine as someone guns the throttle, see if the motor moves excessively. Look at the top dog bone mount for rubber bushings failing apart.

Any oil on the floor, if just residue would pass.

Did the dealer check the condition of the trans fluid at the 90K service?

Ask around for smaller shops that do good work. These shops can be cheaper and often more up front on repair issues.
