May not be the headgasket

2002 Camry 2.4 147K. I replaced the thermostat, today after a visit to the lake it did not push the coolant into the tank but it's leaking from the rear of the head?? a thick rubber/foam gasket(?) between the intake manifold and the block is soaked with coolant. I can't see where the leak is and it stops when parked. Any ideas.

Dave

Hopefully your car is under warranty. I had the same problem with my 03 camry. I had to have the entire short block replaced. I had a coolant leak from the same place on my car. Took it to the dealer. They told me that the stud bolts that keep the head attached to the block either stretch or strip. The only way to fix is to replace the short block. I hope your under warranty. My invoice was $5123.00. I was lucky that powertrain warranty covered it.

Not under warranty

No the warranty is long over 147K miles. If it turns out to be the block I will take it down and see what can be done. There are repairs for bolt hole problems, the dealer would not "try" them in order to stay inline with factory repairs.

Will not be able to get to it till Oct. but will keep the info going. Any other ideas?

What is the rubber/foam for?

It might just be the intake manifold gasket leak.
