Gen6 My solution to placing a handsfree microphone

Next to the daylight sensor on the dashtop was an empty spacer for some feature that this 2003 XLE Camry didn't include. This turned out to be a perfect place to mount the external microphone for the handsfree used for Bluetooth mobile phones in the Blaupunkt Hamburg MP57 head unit I installed.

I also tapped the VSS wire (purple with white stripe on the clock harness) to send the speed pulse information to the GALA wire. I used 3M quick connects for 18 to 16 gauge wire, part number 03874NA. (These were kinda hard to find; only Pep Boys had them in my area.)

Well.. with my bluetooth handfree, it mount in front of the rear view mirror and I believe the reason for that is it's closer to the driver. This location isn't the best cause it's a little too far and U'll get lots of road noise. Inside the pull down shade might be a better location.

How hard was it to wire from the rear view mirror to the dash? I'm still leery about tampering near the curtain airbag in the pillar between the windshield and the door.

I'll do some road tests with this microphone in its current location and change it if the road noise sounds excessive.

Almost bed time so I am lazy to go dig for it but there was a thread maybe a month back talked about installing / replacing a DVD player in the shade and he ran the cable through the pillar. I think he even had pics.

Enjoy.
