Canada Passenger side mirror issue

Hi,

My passenger side mirror stopped going left to right recently. It still moves up and down and the motor does move around but the mirror doesnt.
I opened it up and realized that a part.. lookes like it melted and broke. Its a really small knob ... its hard to explain.
There is a flat plastic piece that the mirror gets hooked on to. There is a round place that holds the controller coming from the motor, which pushes the mirror. The holder round place is broken from one side, so it doesnt hold the controller anymore and thats why it doesnt move side to side.
I called Toyota, they only sell the full mirror for $350+, I was wondering if anyone knows where I would be able to get one. Wrecker is one option I have not explored yet.

I was thinking, maybe I can switch the part from the let mirror to the right mirror, because the left mirror would be using the other end and it should work. Anyone tried it? I drew a picture in paint to show you what I am talking about.

The red box highlighted is where the issue is and the red semi circle is what broke off.

Anyone have any clues.

I know what you are talking about but I have never try it. I don't see why not; however, take some pictures before you take it apart just in case you have to put the one on the left side back together. On some model you can actually replace the actuator by itself, it is still a couple hundred dollars though.

N.E.O.

Hi,

For anyone who is interested, I tried this experiment... was doing great until the last bit, and then the experiment failed!

It is very easy to take out the pins that go into the holes, but a pain in the butt to put them back in. It took me about 1/2 an hour to get the first one in, trying several different ways of doing it, patiently.

Once that was done, for the second one, I didnt have patience and ending up breaking one side of the round thing in the plate. So basically the problem has been transferred from one side to the other.

What happens now is, the mirror moves fine as long as the pin is touching the mirror, otherwise it becomes loose and you have to manually push the mirror so that it touches again... aarrrghh.
Time to look for a wrecked camry and pull one from there!
