Another Idle problem

Went up to the hot springs here in SB and now my 04, 4cly wont idle, just sputters out and dies. Sometimes when I keep the revs up at a stop light, it will pulse from 800-1200 RPM. Also when trying to get on to the freeway the engine won't rev beyond about 4,000 RPM, it sounds really deep. I can rev it while stopped. The shifts seem to be a lot softer now than before. CEL is on with P0171 - System too lean. Google suggests MAF, but would that cause the other problems as well?

I was going to try to clean it along with the IAC tonight. Any tips or special tools needed to remove it?

Does kind of seem like a MAF issue with the idle issue, but doubt thats the problem. Have you had the car serviced recently?

Also check your intake tube for cracks or loose connections.

New plugs about 30K miles ago, new air filter 1000 miles ago, regular oil changes, basic stuff like that. I should also add that the road to the hot springs is unpaved and washboard. I gave a quick glance, and nothing seems to have come unconnected

Check the vacuum lines on the back of the air filter box.

OK, so it turns out the resonator aft of the airbox had come off and was just sitting there. In the dark it looked connected but it was completely disconnected. Reinstalled it and it fixed all my problems, even the idle problem I had with the AC. Im guessing it was always loose which caused the problem with the AC, which started about a month ago. Then the fast turns and bumpy roads this weekend finally knocked it off.

But now comes the question on the damage done. I was driving around for a month with a small hole after the air filter and a day in very dusty environment with a large hole sucking in dust. This road was so dusty that now when I opened the fuel filler door dust comes pouring out.
