Changing the use of the digital compass

For you electronics guys out there, how difficult and time consuming would it be to change the digital compass on the rear-view mirror to instead display your current speed? I never use the compass as I have a GPS, so I thought this might be a fun little mod to do.

Thanks!

Isn't it easier to just look at your speedometer that is right in front of you?
