5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
After much messing around trying to mount the Garmin Nuvi nav unit I found this vent mount at best buy for $10 and ran the power cord from the lighter plug in the storage compartment under the ac controles and ran the wire behind the radio through the dash vent.
use the crutchfield radio removal instructions that can be found on this site.
The vent just pulls out and the wire wraps around the ductwork with out being pinched too hard and is held in place and can not slip back into the vent.
The wire runs from the lighter plug behind the flip up door then up behind the radio.
I tried the suction cup on the window it was too far away and the wire running across the dash sucked.
It's easy to hide the nav when parked to keep some jackass from ripping it off.
There is an extra mount in the package that I put on my iphone

Only problem with that solution that I can think of: Condensation will build up on the base of the AC vent, causing it to crack.
Main reason I know:
I had one of those auto Glade air fresheners that clip onto the AC vent. After a month, the moisture under it started making the plastic crack.
My friend had this ghetto spinning thing that clipped onto the vent / same thing happened to his truck.

After being in the airconditioning business for over 25 years I know that the cold air comeing out of the vent is dry and the unit gets less heat than up on the dash in the sun.
I am not worried about the plastic cracking because plastic has been used for AC vents in cars and houses since the early 1970's
When and if the unit fails a couple of years from now it will be outdated by then anyway but for now it is at a good height so I do not have to look down from the road and the touch screen is within reach unlike when I was useing the suctioncup mount on the windshield.
