So his comparison wasn't completely useless. He managed to discover, unbeknownst to him, that the Mobil 1 at the minimum has a higher quality ADBV.
I learn something new everyday.

FRAM =

jermyjerm ,FRAM had been known for bad quality. U can dig for it but I have read that the filter element can come lose and let dirty oil through. Of cause it won't happen on all their filters so U probably been lucky like many others.

And to the OP, there is a website some geek posted about his test with difference filters. He explain and show how he tested them and to me it was pretty thorough.

The good news is that if your engine is still running, it hasn't caused catastrophic damage. Frams are cut price filters built to be just "good enough" in many situations so it doesn't always come apart. It's just that their design makes them more vulnerable to this type of damage.

I've never bought a Fram filter, but my guess is that for about the same price, Purolator Premium Plus (white can) is your best bet. They generally go for $3-5 each but I've seen them for as low as $2.50 each on sale at Sears and Pep Boys.

Napa Gold, same as Wix, are good also and run about $6 in stores. http://www.fleetfilter.com sells Wix for $4-5 each.
