Supertech oil filter and Mobil 1 oil filter comparison
Fellow Toyota Owners,
Out of curiosity I went to wal-mart and compared the oil filter for mobil 1 oil filter and the walmart super-tech oil filter.
I was SHOCKED.... I compared inside and out. Except for the rubber I see inside the holes were a different color, mobil1-orange, supertech-black.....it was exactly same inside and out. Even the stamping on the metal, the welding, size, rubber seal. Everything 100% same. The only thing I could not see was the "Filter media"..... so I cannot verify if the filter media is same. Ok... so if you don't belive me, please check it out for your self!!
I have a Toyota Camry 2007 4cyl 2.4. Look at the catalog book thing, get model numbers, they have and grab the two filters and compare them at walmart.
PLEASE GO LOOK FOR YOURSELF IF U DON"T BELIEVE ME!!!!!

What's your point? The can doesn't tell you crap. The Mobil filters could have Gnomes and Nanobots inside for all you know.
Yep, only Wix filters for me. and of course Mobil 1 oil

As useless as whining why there isn't a 250 mile elctric car?
There are some people on this site who really think they are much much smarter than others. It is obvious with their comments.
I am on this website to learn and also pass on to others what I come across when it comes to cars.
Let me say this again to all the people with smart comments "GO TO WAL-MART AND COMPARE THE TWO oil FILTERS FOR YOURSELF" in that way you will see what I am talking about. Then make any comment you want.

I doubt that anybody here has the proper equipment needed to do an accurate and useful comparison. Can you give specifics regarding the filters with your "expert" evaluation? What are the canister's burst pressures? Filtering capacities? Filtering abilities (in microns)? How about the construction of the bypass valves? Materials used for the bypass valves?
That's like comparing engine oil, coolant, transmission fluid, belts, hoses, etc. by simply looking at them.
You were right though. Other people in this thread did have smart comments.
He's right. Comparing the color of a seal and the welding on the filter can is useless. Even if Mobil1 and Supertech are made by the same company it does not mean internally they are the same. They probaly use vastly different filter media. That's what makes all of the difference in the filter. Just stick to the quality filters and you will be OK. Why quibble over a buck or two with something this important? I use Toyota filters. I paid $39 shipped for 10 of them off of eBay. I've also used PureOne, Mobil1, Wix and Bosch. They are all quality filters.

Someday I will list my mods here
There is a website i think bobistheoilguy and he has comparisons of oils and filters. Last I checked for my other cars the supertech was the same serial number as STP. Walmart does not make its own filter, orders it to another builder. It is cheaper because of bulk purchase and bargaining power. Also some tax benefits to the manufacturere to sell off brand filters and not pay the cash to STP for its name. I have used Supertech filters and oils for a long time and no problems so far. Just make sure you buy the correct specs oil and filter. I will pay extra for something that is better when I see the proof.

Actually the black and orange ADBV does say a little bit about the filters. The black ADBVs are typically nitrile rubber and tends to get stiff and harden. Higher quality filters have silicone ADBV which are typically orange.
So his comparison wasn't completely useless. He managed to discover, unbeknownst to him, that the Mobil 1 at the minimum has a higher quality ADBV.
