5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
First time poking around the camry section. Anyway the wife and I just got home from signing the papers on an new 08 v6 se. Im having the dealership replace the headlights because I noticed both of them fogging up after a slight rain. I could not tell, but are the se lights tinted? It looked like the chrome was slightly darker, am I correct (it was night time)? I asked them if the car was damaged at any point before, they said no "damage" but did have to replace the over head counsel. I do believe them as my wife works for the parent company of the dealership and knows the sales person. They showed us the data of the car history (car is new).
Also is there any major/normal complaints with the car that I should know about? In the tacoma section we have a bunch of common problems that are well known about, and a tsb list for most if not all of them. I did do a quick search and only found a few things like the trans tsb. But anything else I should keep an eye on?
Lights do fog up. Some of them... Only in rare cases.
SE lights are tinted from the factory. Just a slight bit.
The 6 cylinder transmission is known for the flare. A very VERY small percentage has the flare.
Theres a bunch of TSBs out for the 6 cylinder transmission. I suggest you get it done right away. It'll update your transmission and make your tranny shift faster and smoother. Its free, covered under warranty
The dash might also rattle in cold weather or harsh roads. Couple of us has gotten the dash ripped out and extra padding added to stop the noise. Covered under warranty TSB.
Other than that, the car runs great. Very reliable. Just follow up on regular maintenance and you should be fine.
Nice taco btw!

The inside shouldn't fog up (talking about inside the headlight.. NOT the cabin). It should be seal nicely and the bulbs has a gasket rubber ring so water shouldn't get in that way either.

More baloney............
There is the same humidity (water content) of the air inside the headlight enclosure as outside. The headlight assy. is protected from water but that has nothing to do with the air inside.

Peach, so my 08 Camry v6 SE does not flare, but i hate the hesitaion to down shift going around 30-40 when I step on it, is there a fix for that?

Do you see any hole in the 'assy'??? And yes I do mean seal from the water and not humidity in the air.
Just got my car back from dealer, they could not verify my complaint, but ran the scan tool and said my vin number as far as ECM- tsb is up to date.
They blame my driving style
Everytime a TSB comes out, you can't just take your car to the dealer and demand it to be fixed. UNLESS however, your car's VIN falls into the slot of affected vehicles OR your vehicle does not fall into the slot of affected vehicles BUT your are still able to reproduce the exact problem that the TSB is aimed at...
When people start going to the dealer and start demanding for action when nothing is wrong, it makes it harder for someone else to go in and have them check out a real issue or concern.
That's why dealers charge you a diagnostic fee for your vehicle if they find nothing wrong with it.
Not trying to be a dick, but to me, it seems that you complained about a TSB issue just based on what you read from this thread.

Well ebumdude. You do present yourself as someone who somehow thinks you are a subject matter expert on my Car troubles.
My car at time does not down shift and lugs when trying to pass on the freeway. Also they did not charge me a diagnostic fee.
Thanks for the links and help. Ill keep an eye on those things. Hopefully we will get the car in a few days. I want to do some mods to it, but Im going to have to keep in to a minimum as its going to be the wifes DD and she cant stand when I have to mod things. I am thinking of some wheels, maybe a black headlight mod and some led tails. She doesn't look to happy when I mention the things I want to do, but on the bright side I do get to use her old car (integra) as my DD/work car and my truck can be my weekend toy.
Thanks for the props on the taco too. Ill guess be spending some time on the camry side too now.
