Are there any modern cars out there without DBW (Throttle By Wire)?
Is there a list somewhere?
Or perhaps just a list of cars that don't have the throttle lag?
Now that I can fully appreciate this issue on hand, I have to say I will be test driving new cars *very very* carefully from now on to find one without this ridiculousness.
ferrari, lamborghini, maserati to name a few.. I heard their throttle response was great
Test drive those and see which one best fits you............................................... .............

Uh.. too expensive.
I'm talking more around the $25 - 35k range. This V6 Camry is fast, but unresponsive so far... My old I4 '99 Camry was slow but atleast I knew if I hit the gas, it would move (slowly).
I thought DBW encompassed all electronic vehicle controls, including throttle, braking etc?
It's here because I own a new '09 V6 Camry that has this issue, and I don't quite understand why this is an issue in 2009.
Try pushing the gas in further. Did you start the car and is the key sitting in the "On" position on the ignition? What do you want from a Camry, dude? Or if you really wanna go all out, get some Japanese letter stickers and some NOS stickers and slam them on your windows. Guaranteed 15+ extra HP......I'm such an ass.
i understand the "lag" that it may have at times due to the DBW but thats just the way it is
n with ur question earlier, if u want to get a car that doesnt have DBW then hurry up and get one bc DBW is the fad now, almost all the manufactures are going by this
with ur budget, y dont u look into a MANUAL such as a S2K or STi or an EVO i guarantee u they dont have DBW other than that GOOD LUCK!

For an automatic I find my 07 SE V6 very responsive (in sport/manual mode, automatic mode is a different story [slow & laggy]), if you want less lag go for a true standard car. I wouldn't worry about dbw as much as its transmission, unless you race on the track.
Coming from a early-mid 90's 5-speed manual on a sports car, I find the lag more than acceptable for an automatic.
I will have to try out the Sport Manual mode, or just mash the gas pedal alot so hopefully the computer wises up.
But honestly, I bought the Camry because it was fast from all the reviews and comfortable, which is exactly what I wanted. Something professional but also discreetly fast. EVO? STI? 4 bangers? Now that I actually make money, I wouldn't be caught dead in one of those.

Probably doesn't want to wait two second for the car to decide whether to go or not and worry whether the car coming down the street is going to hit.

You haven't tried the manual mode yet? Is your car a V6? I only drive in manual mode unless I'm about to run out of gas, automatic is far too laggy and sloppy with the gears but serves the purpose of saving gas.
Main thing I dislike so far is how it pulls from slow corners, it seems the power is not there at low rpm on 2nd gear, going to first is not very smooth at this point and you can't blip the throttle like a standard. I'm not sure if the traction control or other intrusive nannies are also culprits of why the car is not very precise at slow in and fast out turns.
Oh yea the new Evo (MR) is a fine car to drive, it has a much more classier exterior than previous Evos, and its shear all around performance/practicality is hard to beat. Not to mention the prices of these vehicles alone move them higher in class.
Now an STi I wouldn't be caught dead in... It looks like an aggressive pos.
I would have to say between the Camry and Lancer I would have to give the looks to the Lancer, perhaps its the sport compact lover in me though...
If only they offered the Camry's 270hp V6 in a Matrix or Corolla with a 6-speed manual....
Really give those Mazdaspeed 6's, Evos, Cobalts SS's and so on a run for their money.
The 5 sp is still drive by wire. I know because I was once trying to merge into traffic from a driveway. I had the car going idle speed and I romped on the gas when I had a chance and there was a 1-2s delay where the car was like "are you sure?" "you're still holding gas, i guess you are," and then "i guess you really really want to go since the gas is still floored" and then it took off.
