I think that Progressive has an on-line worksheet to find the cheapest rates so look there. Take defensive driving class, and put some mone in the bank to pay for a minor accident without using insurance.

I am not sure about high school, but once you get into college/university, there are usually insurance programs that you can purchase through your school, that have special 'student rates'. I know for me, I ended up saving about $200 per month by switching to a company though my college!!
Does your dad already have a car insurance for any cars in the household? If so, why not just put your name under his insurance company? After a year or two, branch off into your own account.
My dad had GEICO, than went to State Farm and back to GEICO because SF wasnt good at all. My dad wanted me to get my own insurance cuz he was afraid that I would get into an accident and his insurance would go up. After browsing, me getting an insurance on my own would of been $2000/year. That was wayyy to much. Ended up putting me under his and I only had to pay like $600/6 months. Branched off after 2 years and I paid only $350/6 months.
Defensive driving gives you discount on your insurance.
As for having license for 4-5 months, it doesnt mean anything to insurance companies. You can have your license for 10 years but they have no record of you driving before cuz you had no car insurance. Some people take drivers ed, get their drivers license and never drive. They use it as ID.
Holy cow! Are you guys serious with this GPA stuff?!
What difference could it possibly make if you're doing well academically or not? You may still be a good and/or safe driver if you fail half your classes, or if you get straight As.
Can someone explain this? I haven't heard of this concept being used in Canada.

My dad has a mini van currently insured but he wants to a switch to a whole new company altogether. So he wants to insure one minivan and the camry. He also wants to put my name under the camry. After much research online i found out that all state has the good student discount. I guess i'll call them later. Thanks for all your help guys.
Yazovets, GPA has been found to be indicative of likelihood to engage in risky behavior. Much like credit scores in adulthood.
Exactly. The actuary tables used for setting rates take many factors into account. Statistically, GPA has a correlation to a lower number of claims which leads one to call a better student more responsible (generally speaking). Therefore, most insurers offer a "good student" discount.
USAA is the best if you qualify to be a member, if not I would say Erie is the next bet thing.
Remember, we said best not cheapest. You get what you pay for and that includes customer service (or lack thereof).

My gfs parents have State Farm. Anyways, she got into a car accident 2-3 months ago. A guy rear-ended her Accord (luckily I stayed a little later at work and met her at the scene since I was going to her place). Called 911, the guy left the scene before cop came, told them everything and got report. We called her insurance company and told them everything. Since she has full coverage, you would think her insurance company would do all the work in getting the claim and money for the damage. No! They didnt do anything except for send an adjuster, look at the car, write a check for $1600 only to take $500 for deductible even though it wasnt her fault.
Her own insurance company didnt do anything. She had to call the other parties insurance company (they had Esurance) and do all the work. They sent their own adjuster and quoted the damage being $750. Luckily, we know someone who does body work and towing so they're going to jack up the price or repair to cover the deductible as well as the car rental (they paid for a car but it had cigarette smell in it so we upgraded to a Corolla)
Gonna have her family switch as her current insurance company did nothing. Why are we/they paying you $800 or so every 6 months and you're not doing anything?
Like car parts, dont go cheap on things when its necessary. You'll pay for it at the end. Granted, State Farm are well know car insurance companies...but the customer service sucks
shit im only 17 and i have a 2002 Le. and i have a 3.7 and mine is only 150 as primary driver with state farm
But you're under your parents insurance.
Age of car and location of where you live is also a factor. But is that $150 per month? I've been driving for 8 years, never been in an accident, had a 1995 Ford Taurus, took defensive driving and I dont even pay $150. I dont even think granny pays $150. So it has to be per month and under your parents insurance.
State Farm does honor 'good student discount' as long as you have a GPA of 3.0+ in HS or apply in a University or take full time credit class in a community college they will still give you that 'discount'.
Does your parents have homeowners insurance? State Farm offers a bundle of car insurance and homeowners all together for a fraction of a price. Try asking for quotes from different insurance companies to better your savings. Good luck!
