suction it to your roof and point it down so you can see it through your sunroof(if you have one) if not suction it to your hood

I thought that the sunglass bin in the overhead console could be put to better use.

Yes and it has been discussed on a different thread. Someone had thought of putting their GPS unit in there but would require some modifications. When the sunglass bin is down, the GPS fits, but when you close it with the GPS, it wont close.

It needs some modifications, but when done well, this is the best solution in my opinion.

I think the best place to mount a GPS is with the standard mounting kit that usually comes with it. Suction it to the windshield, and then take it down when the vehicle is parked in public places.

If you leave it mounted anywhere in the car permanently- and you can see it from outside, you are asking for someone to break in and steal it.

I always put it away when parked, unless it's in my garage. Depending on the neighborhood where I park, sometimes I'll even clean the windshield off so that you can't see the suction cup mark after removal.

One other person on this forum mounted theirs in the lower console bin beneath the HVAC controls. I tried this, but too often my GPS would have a hard time finding a signal, plus it makes it really hard to see the screen when driving. (Even if you have voice guidance, sometimes its helpful to see the screen)

Good luck.

Try driving with the sunglass bin open for a while- it's really annoying having it open because it blocks most of the rear view mirror.

You can aim the arm of the rearview mirror down and than adjust the mirror

That's too far IMO.

I usually put mine in the cup holder.

Here's what I did (am doing) for my Garmin 260...

I got a cheap vent mount, then cut off the superfluous bits (so it's just a flat piece with the ball extension). I attached that to a proclip mount http://www.proclipusa.com/moveclips/moveclips.aspx, which has no play and is very stable. The receptacle is attached (double back tape) in front of the CD slot (I use my iPod, so never use the CD player). The Garmin sits in the cradle it came with and attached to ball of the modified vent mount.

It is at the perfect spot, IMO. I can reach it without stretching or leaning forward at all and it's below the window level so it's rather inconspicuous. It can be removed, save for the bit taped to the dash (for now).

I am in the process of creating a clear receptacle out lexan and epoxy. I'm gonna try to make it so the CD player is useful. Will post pics when I'm done.

b

PS, I'm a big fan of Dremel.
